7/17 Morgaine AMPS 211,+3 158,+6 138, PMPS 133

Morgaine must be bored with the blues so she went back up to the yellow. Anyone else experience a seemingly consistent and relatively unmoveable curve like Morgaine has, in the first few weeks? It is as if her body adjusts to a new dose and settles into a similar pattern with little movement down. We have been in the 130's-low 200's since we started at .50. I would like to know if anyoine thinks this is a bit out of the ordinary or is my impatience showing again ? Her PD/PU was active overnight, not as bad but an increase as her numbers rose. There is also the questions of the high triglycerides and which came first the FD or that and whether that creates some insulin resistance.

I do know her numbers are not that high and that helps me with the waiting game however, is this pattern seen in many kitties?

That's a good question - I've never really thought about it. I know BKs first BW showed high BG and high cholesterol and his vet at that time implied that was not unusual to see high cholesterol with diabetes. I honestly don't know. I do know that was the first and last time I heard about it. His current vet has never commented on his cholesterol.

Morgaine's triglycerides and cholesterol were very high. I have had her seen by 2 vets and consulted by phone with Dr. Lisa. All agreed that the high lipids can effect the FD and all agreed there is the question of which came first. She is on that lower fat diet and I give her fish oil which should be lowering the lipids in her blood. She has had no symptoms but the FD because of the high lipids. So yes, it does go hand in hand with FD for some kitties and I am thinking her BGs need to drop to a normal level for things to resolve. She will be getting another blood draw in a couple of months if I can work that in, to check her lipids. Meanwhile, the vet wants her to lose 1-2 pounds over the next few months. Morgaine has also had a slow metabolism. It took her a very long time to lose 5 pounds. I mean years for that amount of weight to come off. It was definitely a safe and slow weight loss and I know not to rush that as well. Gee, these are such typical problems of type 2 diabetes in humans; overweight, insulin resistance and high fats. Any thoughts are welcome. Meanwhile, I am really okay with where we are heading as she is making very slow and steady progress. That is my girl, slow and steady.

I agree.....these questions may be better off in health although I'm not sure how well FD has really been studied insofar as triglycerides, lipids, cholesterol. I know Gracie's cholesterol is up if her BG is up. It's a very interesting idea; I recently read an article about human diabetics and low fat/low carb meals...makes sense. I wondered if it was applicable to cats. Alot of us feed Wellness which is high in fat. I'd love to try a raw diet but it doesn't have enough carbs to control fast drops (which Morgaine doesn't seem to have).

I don't know if you've seen this info on the Cornell Feline Health site on triglycerides.

My guessis that Morgaine hasn't hit her "good" dose yet. I'd be glad that she's not sitting in pink numbers!

Thanks for that article from Cornell. i had not seen that one. I am very pleased that Morgaine is sitting in the blues and not higher. That is why I am not too worried but am concerned that I keep increasing her dose and not much changes. I do think/hope that we are getting close to seeing some lower numbers. There isn't too much more i can do at this point regarding the triglycerides. Drugs are not really the way to go with cats so getting the FD under control, in the normal range, and doing the diet will hopefully resolve things. Just wondered if others here have run into this problem.

FWIW, the labs that my vet runs don't include triglycerides. There's a value for cholesterol but not triglycerides. It may be an "out of sight; out of mind" issue.
