So, so happy for you, Melissa. That headbutt after two years is phenomenal! Prayers for a really good vet visit, no fluid in the lungs and continued eating and purring.

Vet pulled 100mL out, same as at ER - very thick, milky, pink tinge this time. I guess it's better than another 400mL, but still. The diet and rutin are supposed to take about 2 weeks to show a difference, so I'll just hold out hope for that. In the meantime, have another appointment next week for another tap.

Dear Mr. Kitty! I’m glad it was only 100 mL. I still think it’s a really good sign that he seems to be feeling well! And the BGs are phenomenal!

You are doing great with Mr. Kitty's care AND DO stay positive. You have our prayers and hope too.
Have the best weekend possible . . . meanwhile, Mr. Kitty should have some relief, and I know he must love you for caring so much. :bighug::):cat::bighug:

Question, how do you change your reactions when you see limes when you haven't been giving insulin?!!
So, limes never really bothered me past the first one I'm a pretty even keel person, like how horses are "bombproof".

But now it's more like  I'm hoping he can maintain it, but honestly with everything going on it will just be a pleasant surprise if he does

Thanks everyone :bighug: I'm just in borderline survival mode between family and pets. Taking my cues from him for the time being, but we also cant be doing weekly chest taps forever.
I feel so deeply for you because I believe I do understand. You sound extremely sensible and smart. I get awfully tied up between people and pets - just trust yourself ok? I wasn't sure you were able/ going to take it this far (I haven't looked up costs). What I have been reading gives a bit of encouragement, including the treatment for Mr Kitty, but at the same time, things could be a little dire (my reading). The good part is that at this time, your pretty, dear cat is OK, you aren't having to worry about insulin, and now is a great time to remember HE is not focusing on his health, or ANY of the stressful things in your own mind;)
Today is good . . . one day or hour at a time! Love to you and your family:bighug:

Thank you :bighug:

Cost isn't too bad (barring that ER vet bill, they should be ashamed of themselves). Vet has waived exam fee and is only charging $67 per tap...that's basically offset by no more insulin, extra litter, extra food, etc. So that's manageable. But surgery is out of the question, so we'll continue to do taps for a little while and reevaluate in about a month.

I like that advice of one day at a time. :bighug::bighug: Remember the head butts and purrs - other than the vet visit Mr. Kitty thinks it's been a good day. You are doing all you can, the rest is up to his body. Paws crossed on the diet and rutin doing their thing. I like your vet too.

So. Not so great news for Mr Kitty, good news for Pippi (vet calling me at 10p on a Friday night ha)

Good news first, Pippi's tumor is low grade and should not have metastasized.

Not so great news, this will be a bit long. They pulled that 100mL from his left side, he said the closest thing he can compare it to is Churu if any of you have used that before (similar to tapioca pudding). Used the large needle and it only came out as a trickle. They pulled about 15mL from his right side, and that was more typical chyle. Just continue what we're doing, I said I don't exactly have a good feeling about this, and he sighed and said "yeah, I'm not exactly optimistic myself, but we'll do everything we can".

Rutin's purpose is twofold - it's supposed to help stop fluid leaking out, and it's also supposed to help thin any existing fluid so it can resorb...and realistically it's probably not going to thin that stuff on his left side.

The only slim hope we have is the correlation between pancreatitis and chylothorax, and the fact that he has a history of pancreatitis (as well as the correlation between diabetics and pancreatitis) . SO, we'll try a SnapfPL next week and another tap. I'm not super hopeful since this would be a long flare, and I would have expected higher BGs. And probably a Convenia shot for good measure, he had that last time and it possibly helped resolve the pancreatitis. That, or whatever underlying cause of the effusion just magically clears up.

DH and I decided we'll give it a month. We feel that's the best balance - exhaust the options within our means, while also being compassionate.

I totally understand! I could say more … and I typed more…. And backspaced over it … But much has been said here that is good. I understand. And I am rooting for you and Mr. Kitty. And I absolutely respect you for what you are doing now. And I just want to hug you. And I wish that I could volunteer to take your kids out for some fun or something to give you a break!

:bighug::bighug: I think as we all feel, I just don't want him to suffer. We will hold out hope and do our best for him, and at the end of the day that's what matters.

My mother in law is currently on a New England road trip and will be back Monday...I am counting the days lol I just need a big nap!

Oh Melissa I'm so sorry. Hoping at least that Mr Kitty is eating and doing his cuddly kitty things and that you can at least get a few nap-ettes in (with Mr Kitty!) while waiting for MIL to get back. My heart is hurting for you. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Good news about Pippi!
I’m sorry there was more pleural fluid. Next weeks tap will give you an idea of how it’s progressing. Hopefully less.
Sending plane loads of strong Aussie vines.
