Numbers going up, ketones up a tad again. Even gave R last night. I have convinced myself it's the simple syrup in the spironolactone. No spiro with the sitters, low BG. Not much spiro before I went away because I stopped giving when she was being picky with food. Getting a refund from 1800petmeds and a local pharmacy calling me back to verify they can compound it without sugar. In the meantime I may try and improve my pilling technique, if I can do it without stressing her. We shall see!

I saw your note about the Spironolactone having sugar! Argh! Isn’t there some way you can have it compounded by a compounding veterinary pharmacy WITHOUT sugar. Maybe a flavor, too?

I see she is eating Paw Lickin’ Chicken again. Darcy liked that one! It actually looks and smells like real chicken too.

Thanks for checking in, as always! I hope you are able to enjoy your time in the cabin and relax some. Been a busy few days so posting fell by the wayside. I am hopeful that getting rid of the simple syrup (arghhhh) will get her back quickly to decent numbers. All seems ok with the furry ones apart from the numbers!

That’s good! I was worried that you were ill but I figured you were just tired most likely. Minnie looked stable on her SS except it looks like it’s time for an increase? I just commented on your old post 7/13 about that. I didn’t like Minnie’s ketones being .5 but it is safe for her to be there. I’m just an overachiever concerning ketones. :)

Ha ha, you're going to get me into trouble with the old post getting bumped to the top! I just replied to that one. I think I'll copy it all over here.

I think tomorrow. Out for dinner tonight. Though also debating whether to keep the dose and try the spiro pill again (or just skip spiro, can give extra potassium). If I can avoid lime-anigans that is good for my and her stress levels. Not sure how long it takes the spiro/syrup to stop having an effect on BG. On the other hand I'm not thrilled about the ketones creeping back to 0.5.
 
They're a decent size - thin and smooth but quite a bit bigger than either the ondansetron or cerenia. It won't fit into the gelcap. She's supposed to have 1/2 pill a day. 1/4 pill twice a day just seems like twice the hassle. Just offered her some empty pill pockets and still not interested in them. They have a minty flavor so crushing into her food didn't work. Last time I tried the butter trick it didn't work. She just won't swallow! I'll have a go pilling over the weekend but this is how I ended up with the suspension. Follow up bloodwork 2 August, would be great if it came back that she didn't need this anymore! Though the vet doesn't think that will be the case....

Missed the window for R this afternoon, was not expecting her up in the pinks again. It's weird. At least her appetite is going strong, and she'll eat the duck. Seems to be a shortage of turkey!

I feel you. I'm the only person on earth that can pill Mr kitty (by hand too mind you!). But he will not eat this rutin (250-500mg, fun). SO, I'm crushing it up, mixing it with a bit of food, and syringing. Sorry bud, but it's the only possible cure for what's going on. If she really needs it you could try that, but something tells me miss Minnie is too classy for syringes.

Ha, I'm not sure classy is the right word. Stubborn and difficult and diva-ish. At least I have a backup (I think) with a local pharmacy compounding a suspension that is not simple syrup. ARGH. I just shake my head - at them for doing it and me for not thinking to ask. I think she's ok to miss a few days if I increase the potassium though this is not vet-advised. I am just not happy with where her BG is going, not sure if it's the med or something else going on. Paws crossed her appetite still good.

You really have your hands full with Mr Kitty, at least he is compromising a bit with the BG. Hope the rutin starts working soon. :bighug:

Could you just do it in some broth or something in the meantime?

I hear you. The combo of BG plus ketones is always a little eyebrow-raising.
