After what we thought was good news on Friday with the diagnosis of gi issues and no ketones, precious took a turn. She stopped eating and drinking except for a little bit so the vet had is pick up the meds on Saturday(yesterday). Well, she wouldn't take the pre/pro biotic and they said not to give the nausea meds until she has that and ate/drank so catch 22. Went to the emergency today and they diagnosed her with a death sentence. Ketones at 1.6 and bg around 425. They said they could do invasive and extreme treatment over the course of 5 plus days in the hospital and over $7k but she probably wouldn't get any better and it would be traumatic.

Not doubting them but had them give her some fluid and the cerenia shot so we could bring her home. Going to see if she gets any better overnight and being her to our very in the morning. Just was not prepared for this change after a day

I am so sorry to hear this. 1.6 ketones is not too high and might not even show up in the urine. We worry when the ketones on the blood get to 2.4.
Hopefully the cerenia shot will help and she will eat for you. If you have any ondansetron you can gone that as well as heaving the cerenia shot for nausea.
Please let us know how she goes. Sending prayers.

Thank you and today is a good day. We thought she may pass overnight by what the doctor said and how she was acting. So I stayed up again with her and spent the night lying down next to her. She actually started to sleep a little normal for a change and at 4am she got up and started eating! Within a couple hours she was almost back to herself, alert with energy plus drinking and eating. We brought her right down to our regular vet first thing in the morning to get a trusted second opinion and to be checked out. Precious was more active than she has been in a very very long time. My vet also agreed that the diagnosis from the er was not correct and we made the right choice. We are cautiously optimistic but also so very very grateful. Now to see how the next few days go, keep checking her ketones and then start up the insulin. I am just so glad we were selfish and wanted at least 1 more night with our baby.

I am very happy to read this report. I think Precious needs antinausea medication routinely at the moment. Did your vet give you some ondansetron? It can be given 3 times a day if needed.
There is nothing in the spreadsheet. Are you giving insulin?

I haven't started the insulin yet unfortunately. We just got the meter and lancets in and were getting ready to get the instruction visit and start when this happened. I am in the process of selling off some things to recoup the money to get the insulin and have a reserve in case something like this happens again. I think you are right about the anti nausea, she got another shot of the cerium today and the vet talked about something that you can rub on the ears(can't remember the name) that she will get us if needed. We do have the cerium pills but even she said that those can be tough and counterproductive at times. I know I am long winded, sorry about that. So long story semi shorter, after this crippling scare I am going to be ultra vigilant and be a pain to the vet by calling/emailing when anything slightly changes. Thank God she is so good and patient with us haha

The medication that is rubbed on the ear sounds like an appetite stimulant which is fine but if Precious is nauseated, she must have an antinausea medication first. Please ask the vet about ondansetron. It is a better antinausea medication for cats.
And it is very important to get the insulin started as soon as you can.

Thank you and I will ask her about that ASAP, going to send her an email now. Yes, we also plan to do the insulin ASAP too. Even if we just get 1 pen to start and get the rest next month.
