? 7/15 AMPS 21.4 random high bg for the past week while not dropping low (shouldn’t be a bounce)

Not sure why but my kittys BG levels are sooooo high randomly. I added friskies in addition to fancy feast about a month ago but in the past week his numbers have been so high. I am getting a humid day test and he’s not dropping super low so it can’t be a bounce. I feel like I’m failing him and don’t know what to do or what I’ve done wrong for his numbers to go up. He hasn’t been acting abnormal at all and the last time I brought him to the vet the vet said he is healthy other than the diabetes, meaning his teeth etc. are good.
Do I continue with doing the curve and increasing his dose? He was doing soooo good for a while and then out of nowhere he’s right back at the beginning

Without seeing tests in the pm cycle, we can't tell what is happening. We are missing 1/2 the data
Is there any reason why you cant get a test in each PM cycle? when a lot could be happening.
It looks as if you are following SLGS. You are not testing enough to be doing TR. Would you mind putting SLGS into the SS and the signature please
For now, I would follow the SLGS dosing method and increase every 7 days if needed and try and get those pm tests in.

I did a pm shot last night and he’s not going low. I have a baby and evenings are really chaotic right now.

so do you think I should still do a curve and increase if his numbers are still high following SLGS? He was doing so good on 2.25 idk what went wrong so I’m struggling with increasing if he was better on the lower dose. Or why he’s so high all of a sudden

The reason I am mentioning the pm cycle is because we don't know if he is bouncing overnight from dropping lower or if he just needs more insulin. Just taking one test every so often at night wont tell you the real picture because if he is bouncing on those nights you do test, it is still not telling us the full picture. Does that make sense?
The preshot BGs don't tell us information for dosing. It is the nadir, or lowest point in the cycle that tells us if we need to increase or decrease the dose.
He was doing better on 2.25 U but that could be because he wasn't bouncing at that point. I can only speculate without the data.
Yes I would do a curve and increase the dose if the BGs tell you an increase is needed. But I would really try and get in 1 test overnight consistently if you can.

I will do my best to do as many pm tests as possible. Do you think he could be riding because of the friskies that I added to his diet about a month ago? His Bg levels rose about a week ago and the tests I have done he isn’t super low. I’m just so confused as to why he’s riding since I don’t think he’s bouncing. I’m also worried there’s another reason he is so high and I’ll give him too high of a dose. Is this normal or has it been seen before where all of a sudden his bg levels rise significantly

He most likely just needs more insulin, but we need to see that reflected in the BGs before we advise to increase the dose. He is still a newly diagnosed kitty and it takes time for them to get used to insulin and for it to work. Very few kitties get sorted quickly.
We can't say he is or is not bouncing unless we see test during the cycle.
We don't know if the dose is working well because we need to see tests during the cycle.
I would get a curve done so you can increase the dose. If you stay too long at a dose you can get glucose toxicity and then it makes it harder to get the BGs back under control.
I would not worry too much, but concentrate on getting those tests in during the cycles...am and pm cycles. I know I'm going on about them but they are what we need for dosing advice and to see if the dose is enough or not enough or too much. Any other way is just guess work.

I am going to do a curve today and likely end up increasing the dose. If that’s what the curve says.

If you stay with a dose for too long the body gets used to the higher numbers and wants to stay there. Then you have to go even higher in dose to get the body to respond to the insulin.

Yes if you find a good dose you can stick to it but you have not found that yet.

I don’t think he is randomly getting high BG. He is looking like a newly diagnosed kitty that has not found the best dose yet. Try not to overthink things.

He will be hungry because at the moment his body can’t utilise all the nutrients in the food. Once he is in better numbers, the hunger will ease.
