Good morning LL!

3 p's present this morning. Still recovering from my fur shot yesterday morning. Tarragon was feeling pretty rotten last night, which just proves how much he does need his insulin. He had diarrhea and was wanting to just be left alone. Poor guy. DH shaved a little area on Tarragon's back so it is easier to see. He is such a fluffy kitty that sometimes it is hard to know whether you really get it in there or not.

Hope you all have a wonderful Friday eve!!

Re: 7/14 Tarragon AMPS 322

Sorry to hear Tarragon had the runs and was not feeling well. I also did a fur shot yesterday. I hope Tarragon feels better and the numbers come down, too. Have a nice day.

Re: 7/14 Tarragon AMPS 322

sorry Tarragon wasn't well last night, hopefully today he'll be back to his old self.

It's hard to shoot the fluffy kitties isn't it? Shaving is a good idea.

Have a lovely day

Good idea shaving the fur. Star is a short haired and we still question whether she got the juice in or not!

Hi guys .. sorry to hear about the furshot and sorry to hear tarragon wasn't feeling well last night .. hopefully with the shaved area the furshots won't be happening .. have a great day guys!

Re: 7/14 Tarragon AMPS 322

Sorry about the fur shot. These long hair kitties are beautiful but sometimes it is hard to see under all that fur. And even short hair kitties sometimes it's hard to tell where the fur ends and the skin starts.

Shaving a small area is one answer. I bet it will really help you out.

This is what I did to shoot BigMac:
I saw somewhere (on FDMB, I think, years ago) that if you gently pull up on the fur to make a tent, the fur makes a natural part and you can 'see' the skin and shoot right there. I found it was easier for me to get the shot in the right place with BigMac's fur. So I do not grab his skin... I only grab his fur and lift. :-D

Here is a photo example:

Re: 7/14 Tarragon AMPS 322

GREAT picture CD! Long hair makes it really tough I bet. My two have short hair but still, fur shots happen sometimes.

That's a good sign if Tarragon didn't feel so good in the higher numbers IMHO. Maybe he will try to get back down to the numbers that make him feel better.
I think that before dx, they are used to the high numbers and consider that feeling "normal". Once they begin to get the insulin and get a lower range, those lower BGs become their norm.
So, Tarragon: come on down now!
Hope you both have a great day! :YMHUG:

Re: 7/14 Tarragon AMPS 322

Oh, poor Tarragon. The runs can't be fun for a kitty.

Great picture from CD! I never realized how hard it was for long-furred kitties to get their shots.

Tarragon I hope you feel better today. Junior sends his best!

Another underground dweller is gophers around here. They make nice, large mounds in the pasture. Mainly out towards the back fence, but unfortunately, the grass grows a bit longer out there, and it's harder to see them.

Re: 7/14 Tarragon AMPS 322

Loved the visual, C.D! I really didn't think about pulling the hair up. Simon is not long-haired but it is really hard to see what I am doing most of the time. Pulling the hair up will certainly help. The shaving idea is also something I had not thought of.

Sorry Tarragon is feeling poorly today. Hope things are better tonight.

Poor Tarragon!!! I hope his bottom problems get fixed soon and his numbers come down. Extra scritches for the handsome one and his sidekick Turnup!!

Gracie is short haired but that girl is plush plush. I also read somewhere on FDMB about the technique Carolyn shows and that's exactly how I do Gracie's shot. I don't shoot unless I see skin and see the needle going in. Glad it worked!

Aw thanks guys. Tarragon's bottom is much better and he is back to his lovey dovey self. I think his diarrhea was due to the 515. Has anyone else seen that happen when they have a sudden spike again?

Marj - Turnup got an extra scritch just from you and said meowwww. I think that means thank you.

Hi Melissa - Mannie's a long hair too - and what CD showed is what I do with Mannie - never ever miss a shot that way, I can see exactly where I am shooting - it does work great!! I am glad that it worked for you too. SO MUCH EASIER!!

I hope tarragon feels better when the numbers come back down. sure makes a difference doesn't it.

Have a great night guys!

oh no the fur shot! Tarragon looks like my Gobnait. does she also have black skin? It bet that does make it harder. And these tiny needles! why so small?

I have found that if i really stretch the scruff that i feel the "pop" when the needle goes in better.

I had grown accustomed to shooting Desmond 2x a month with adequan. after two weeks with the insulin needles i had to go to the vet with my adequan needle to ask "really". They seem GIANT!

I just shot him this morning. It was like going in for a spinal tap!

Good luck with cute Tarragon!
