7/13 Karamelle AMPS 320 +3 377 +6 340 +9 391 PMPS 386 +2 373

Come on down gently, Karamelle. I hope she breaks through this quickly and doesn’t get too much NDW.

Let us know how the dosing with those syringes is going (bubbles) and if you try the calipers again.

Thanks. I havent ordered the caliper yet. Theres so many choices. Not sure which one is best. But I dont want to spend a lot on one either. Also, Ive seen your videos and photos of holding the caliper up to the syringe, using the larger side. I have a non-digital caliper and was trying to just hold the caliper up against the syringe and theres no lip or anything for the top part to rest on, so the placement seems like it would be random. Ive also seen videos of people using the small side of the caliper to push the syringe to the set dose. Its all very confusing.

if you try the calipers again.
This is the video I was referring to where they use the small side. Seems simple enough, but I dont have that calculator that apparently is only available on another diabetes site.
I do have a caliper. I will post a photo so you can see. Will have to do that separate, since the photo is on my phone and Im on my laptop at the moment. Anyway, since I dont have a calculator or a digital caliper, I thought if I pull up the dose I want to give and set the caliper to that dose, then the dose will always be the same. it really doesnt matter if its exactly 1.25 or 1 or any other number, right, as long as its consistently the same dose.

It definitely matters. If 1u = 1.52 mm then all the doses must be based on that measurement so that 2u, for example, would be 3.04 mm (1.52 x 2). That’s a big difference.

You don’t have to have digital calipers but they are inexpensive and then you have one less measurement to eyeball.

And you don’t need a calculator. It’s just simple multiplication.

Have you read my post on using calipers? It’s spelled out very simply there with videos.

What an eye opener. I just tested 3 identical syringes using one caliper setting. I don't have the digital caliper yet, just used my mechanical one. I measured using the small side. Anyway, two are very close but one is off by quite a bit!!! I'm sold now. No wonder I can't get her regulated if I'm giving different doses all the time. That one that was way off was the one I just used so it looks like she didn't get enough, sigh. I didn't give her what it measured because it looked like too much and I thought I'd done something wrong. That's when I measured two more. @Marje and Gracie

I found syringes could vary by as much as almost 0.5u in the same box.

I agree completely. Marje sold me on this concept years ago and I began using calipers and never looked back!
It takes one thing we can control to use as a more precise tool.
And thank goodness they are inexpensive.
One tip, keep a few spare batteries on hand for your calipers.
I’ve had to replace a battery unexpectedly and it removed a big stressor to have to get to a store unexpectedly to find the right battery in a crisis!

Thanks again Marje for the instructions. I know Jo will love using them 🥰
