7-11 +4. Was 97 Day Cycle
7-11. PMBG. 102
7-12 AMBG. 101. @+7. 188 I'm not happy about the 188 BG

I called my vet today and told her that on Sat the other vet ,her boss gave him Fanciclovir
I told her his ears and nose still felt warm to me
I told her I read that the antibiotic he gave me said it was for the herpes virus
She said she doesn't think he has herpes virus only because he's indoors, I have no other cats
She thought the antibiotics should have kicked in by now , she gave him the covenia shot in the beginning
I asked her about clavamox and she said the pill was really large and since he's 16 lbs the liquid form would be too much to give him
So give him fluids for 2 days and call her

I just picked it up, she already left and the third vet was there, they call him the Cat Man because he specializes in cats

He happened to be at the front desk and I told him what was going on and what antibiotics he's had so far.
I said how could he gave herpes virus , indoor cat, only cat
He said when they sneeze and the eyes are tearing it's herpes virus
Trying to remember how he worded it but something to the effect that herpes virus is always there, in cats, something like that
He said as long as he's eating and drinking it's fine
Told me to finish out the Flamciclovir , and give it at least 14 days
Tyler is eating and drinking good, even playing

So what the heck could be going on, does he have the herpes virus or not
I'm just so worried about his BG numbers since he is in remission
To me his nose sounds a little bit better, meaning the stuffiness, and his eyes are tearing less
I'm just so Aggravated
He also said he wouldn't add another antibiotic into the mix
Any ideas or am I making a big issue about this
Could stress have brought this out after he had the vomiting issue 6 days before this virus started?

From what I understand about the herpes virus, Tyler could have gotten it years ago from a surface where there was another sneezy kitty. It's very easy to transmit, just like humans can get cold sores. It sounds more dire than it probably is. The cat guy sounds like knows what he's talking about. :)

Just remember that yes he could have been exposed to herpes virus any time - as a kitten - even before you had him - and once they have it they still carry it in nerve cells. It can reactivate due to anything - stress, any challenge to the immune system, use of steroids, etc. It is likely since herpes is one of the main two causes of upper respiratory infections in cats (and he’s vaccinated against the other). But there is no reason he cannot recover from this. He has a working immune system (no FIV). I have a cat, Marcus, with FIV. He got an upper respiratory infection last year and he was soooooo sick from it (like nothing I’ve ever seen in my non-FIV cats). It literally took him 3 months so recover from the infection with lots of supportive care…. I have the vet invoices to remind me of that (I was recently going through my vet invoices and records and organizing them so I was reminded of this sickness.). ANYWAY, Tyler should be able to mount a decent immune response and kick butt on this infection. If he doesn’t, then he may have developed a secondary bacterial infection and you would want to add in antibiotics. But let’s not put the horse ahead of the cart!

From what I understand a cat can pick up the herpes virus from anywhere, even if they are inside only. It can lay dormant for years and then cause a URI. It usually is just something mild. It sounds worse than it really is. I'd go with what the vet said and finish the antibiotic and use steam or a vaporizer as needed. Zyrtec may also help and can be given along with the antibiotic. Sending prayers. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you Carla, you also made me feel a little bit better, while I'm worrying he's taking a nice nap after eating , I'm glad he's getting a nice rest :p

I assume you don't give it every day for the rest of their lives, do you only give it when they have the virus going on
Yes. Only if they are sneezing or have runny eyes. The benefit of Zyrtec is it acts like an appetite stimulant which helps if the sense of smell is diminished and they aren’t eating as well. It did that for Max and for Mocha when I tried it when she was scratching. Only when needed for lysine as well.

So Diane …. I hope are not beating yourself up over Tyler getting sick! This has nothing to do with you doing anything wrong or not doing anything you should have done. It is totally NOT you! It’s going to be okay!

Now tell me how Ashley is today after PT? I’ve been thinking about her this afternoon and evening… I wanted to ask.
Aww thank you Suzanne, Ashley did only what she felt comfortable with doing.
Not too much pain after she got home, just sweated her butt off because she has to wear the coat with the hood on because of her ears.
Tomorrow again , then on Thursday. I just keep telling her how proud I am of her for dealing with the heat and PT
I appreciate you thinking of her ♥:bighug::bighug:

Hi Diane, started to write you a pm but this is better, I’ve been following your posts most of the days and the responses. Had to take my husband to a late doctors appointment. Hope Tyler was doing better tonight. You got a lot of great advice. I am sorry you are going through so much stress. Happy to hear that Ashley was doing better after PT although sweaty. I was up to 1 am again this morning trying to get Dolly tested, begging her on my hand and knees :arghh: to get on the table, I try not to force it, she just started talking to me again :p Now tell I don’t sound completely controlled by a cat :nailbiting:? I see you have not checked his BG since the 188, I know that freaked you out, I’m so sorry. It will come down once he is feeling much better. I wish I could magically take your worries away but that’s who you are, you care deeply which lets you get to worry a lot. I totally understand as you know. It’s 11:30 so one more test and hopefully she has not dropped a lot a or at all. I am exhausted. I’m sure you are as well. I hope the 3 of you are peacefully sleeping. Sending healing prayers and lot of hugs :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

I'm still up, it's 3 AM, Tyler is just laying under the kitchen table.
I guess you can say he's sneezing less and his eyes aren't tearing as much.
To me his eyes look a little squinty
I'm like you I don't know either lol
I can just picture you on your hands and knees begging her to get in the table lol
She must have been saying look at this crazy cat lady :p
I see you have an appt for the neurologist in Aug, is that for her legs? I forgot
Right now that I'm watching the movie the Godfather which I've seen a million times, then switching to The Bronx Tale which I've seen a million times
Have the alarm set to get up at 6 AM for Tyler's antibiotic
I'll probably fall asleep soon, I fell asleep around 10 PM tonight for about 2 hours
I hope you can go to bed soon. If you're in bed already sleep well and I'll check in tomorrow.:bighug::bighug:

IDK about kitties but lysine & zinc oxide work on my herpes where nothing else does. I use a topical on my lip or nose and if I start as it starts to tingle - it doesn't infect the cells next to it then goes dormant again in the nerve cells in the upper spine. HATE IT, had a big one on my mouth in my kindergarten photo, Husband, kids, grandkids, none of them have it.

Oh gosh I am proud of her and very impressed for doing it! She is amazing! As a matter of fact, Diane, I am truly convinced that you are amazing too. You mist be very supportive and very strong in order to help Ashley. She must draw a lot of strength from you in order to just keep on going every day. I just feel a lot of sympathy and love and respect and compassion for the two of you. You must have so much to navigate and deal with that it would take me a book to write about it.

Suzanne you are too sweet, Ashley is amazing, I don't know how she deals will the pain sometimes. I don't know if I would be able to do it.
Thank you for the kind words!
I think any parent would do the same, at least I hope they would.
I had to drop my car off to my mechanic today, it's leaking anti freeze, let's see how strong I am when I get the bill :p
I just hope it's something minor, I doubt it with my luck
I hope you are doing well and I'm always glad to hear from you.
I hope you have a good night ♥:bighug::bighug:

Oh, bless your heart for having to deal with that, and thank you so much for sharing your real life experience with lysine and zinc! That is invaluable!
