WCR: All Ps in place. Little girls seems to be doing good today. I went back to bed only once today and mostly just laid there, but when it came to actually getting out of bed...didn't want to do it! Shasta's appy has been ok, but only after I entice and follow her around and sweet talk her. Getting me a little worried about when work starts back in August.

Ok, question/advice please?!?! Recently, I have had major issues with bubbles in the syringe. I pull in an extra unit of Lantus just because I know that it's going to take me that much to get the bubbles out. :-x I thwap the syringe to get the air bubbles to the top so that I can expel them and sometimes it's easy peasy. Other times, I swear I'm going to break the syringe because I have to thwap it so many times to get the bubbles to center at the top. There are a few times that I have been worried that there was still a tiny bubble left in the syringe. In these instances, should I discard the Lantus & syringe and start over? Why am I having so many issues? crappy syringes?!? I do not inject air into the pen and I hold the plunger tight so that it doesn't slip before I pull the needle out of the pen.

Sending healthy vines to all our sugar kitties and their hoomins! Blessings!

Sorry Shasta's appy hasn't been the best. Will she eventually eat if you leave her food out and don't follow her around with it? That's a good question about the air bubbles in the syringes. I don't have any idea, but am interested to see what others say. Maybe you should be the ? icon on your condo to get more eyes.

What type of syringes are you using? I'm using BD (pretty much all we can get here) and quality level from one box to the other is highly variable. I'm almost at the end of this box and dreading getting a new one as the current lot has been pretty good but the last box was just plain awful. I draw about an extra 1/2 unit, then pull the plunger up to make an air pocket at the top, then tap the syringe to dislodge the bubbles. It seems bubbles at the bottom like to join bubbles at the top. Then I press the plunger down to squeeze out the air. But again, depending on the syringe batch, it sometimes works better than others.

I hope Shasta's appy improves. Maybe it's a summer/heat thing? Great cycle today though.

Hi Carla & Wendy,

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to the board. Shasta has been cracking me up today. She gave me 2 happy crap dashes today. The 2nd one was hysterical. She yowled a few times (to which I answered); she came out of her room and sat in the hallway and when I came over to harass her, she zipped past me like a black panther and attacked her scratching post. We had several snuggle sessions on the floor throughout the day. Then my favorite was when she would finish eating a snack, she'd walk across my lap (between me and my computer) and instead of laying across my lap or laying next to me...she'd sit her butt down on my leg like she was a dog. I'm almost done with my faux Roman Shade for my kitchen. Of course as I'm working on it, Shasta goes into her carrier and rarely comes out...even if she needs to eat...like tonight (+2 - +4) Finally, I took her bowl to her in her carrier because I was worried about her numbers...and of course, she ate! Carla, I'm hoping that she'll eat when I'm not home. I think she will. :?

Wendy, I will have to practice on some old syringes to see if I can draw in extra air for an air pocket and dislodge all the air bubbles that way. Right now, I'm using Wal-mart brand Relion syringes and I kind of hate them, but I'm kind of horrible about monitoring how many I have left and never think of ordering the good ones online. Maybe I should go ahead and order the nice ones now so that I will have them ready. :-D

Hope Furball and Neko are having a good day!

Sending happy appy vines for Shasta. And good grief on that +4.  :o That's some kind of diving!

The bubbles in syringes will drive all us to drink more than ~O) There have been many discussions on LL about the different brands and it seems that everyone has some problems from time to time regardless of the brand. We tried Terumo, BD and monojet and finally settled on the monojet syringes. Marje told us about electronic calipers from Harbor Freight to measure. We got some and it helped us to feel like we were more accurate with drop dosing, even with bubble issues.

Re: 7/10 Shasta PMPS=328 +2=264 +4=93

Hi, Deborah, FWIW I use Relion syringes (since Ripley's dx in Nov.), and I recently found a 'bad batch.' Air bubbles galore, plus some even had a leak which caused the insulin to drip past the black plunger and leak out :-x . (I contacted Relion and they sent me a container to send the defective syringes back to them so they can evaluate them in their lab and decide whether or not to replace or refund...) It's my first and only issue so far with the Relions ~ so maybe you have a defective batch?

Anyway, I hope you guys are having a good evening.
Whoa on Shasta's +4 ~ slow down, sweetie!

Re: 7/10 Shasta PMPS=328 +2=264 +4=93 +5=69

Hi Anne & Josie,

So, I have the calipers...but have never used them because I wasn't sure how to use them. I thought I knew how to use them, but then it didn't seem to be very reliable?! So then I figured I wasn't using them right. Personally, I would love if someone would make a video or take pictures of how they are used! :-D Don't forget, I'm NOT an engineer or anything in the science/medical field, etc. Please don't judge me!

Apparently, I'm not allowed to do anything between +2 and +4 but cater to my cat's every whim. If I try doing something else, she sulks and won't eat on her own (usually) and then we see that lovely (not) free-fall. At this rate, I'll never finish any sewing projects and seeing how I've become a fabric hoarder, I REALLY need to make things and finish those projects. grrr...come on Shasta, let me sew. I highly doubt that you want me to give you my full attention because then I'll just annoy you and you'll get angry and swat & hiss at me. @-)

Josie, I've had some really crappy Relion syringes; the leaky ones, a bent needle, and lots of bubbles. Maybe it is just a bad batch. I've got about 20 more of this box.

p.s. I just paused my typing to present Shasta with her fuds bowl (worried that she was still dropping a little from her +5) and she scarfed down the rest of her dinner like she hadn't eaten in the past 6 months. After she finished that off, I grabbed her a little more 3% (fresh) and she turned her nose up at it. UGH!
