Good morning! I overslept by 30 min. so she got her shot a little late. I am off today and hopefully will have better luck than mom getting some test done. No storms in the forecast til late this afternoon, so thats good.
I have been thinking about her dental next week, and it has been suggested that I do not skip the xrays pre and post dental. I know that it is normal and required usually, but with Chi Chi, her vet doesnt want to subject her to an extra 30 min. under the gas. She feels she can do a good enough cleaning and extractions to relieve any pain and discomfort that may be preventing remission. I want to trust her judgement, and feel she is more than competent. She said that Chi Chi has tooth resorption/periodontal disease, so Im wondering now if I should ask her to do the xrays? Hmmmm???

Hi Laura. It's a tough call. I feel guilty when I get a dental done because my vet doesn't think X-rays are necessary and so Max hasn't had any. If I were to go to the one dentist around here the bill would be at least $1500 and I worry about so much time under anesthesia. At least you have a vet doing the cleaning unlike so many offices that use techs. I guess you have to go with your gut. Not easy.

Actually, she said her tech is doing the cleaning, but she will be hovering over her. The estimate for combo mass removal/dental is $800.00- $1000.00

So your office is like mine. That's a good price considering the mass removal the extractions add additional fees .

No answers, Laura. I've had at least four cats through time with FORL. Patch lost all his teeth; Polly is toothless, and I'm remembering that Ocho and Charlie also had resorptive issues. We didn't do x-rays; they weren't available. I'm sort of thinking they're a worthwhile option all things being equal. But, not all things are equal. If you trust your vet, your gut says no....then that's your call.

Vines. And whohoooooo on Chi Chi's numbers!

Marilyn and Polly

I think your vet is being wise and cautious. You know ChiChi best, and it's your heart that will break if there is a problem from too long under anesthesia. I'd say you should go with your gut. Either way, sending lots of good vines.

I guess I am contrary to every one else....
with FORL, there are hairline cracks in teeth that are only going to be visible by x-ray. So when FORL is in the mix....
I myself would not go without the x-rays....

if the vet does some prep work before hand, where everything is ready to go.... ( the mouth piece , xray warmed up, etc) she might be able to shave some time.... hope she thinks that way if you suggest it.

She knows her time limit with anesthesia and with those x-rays, she might even find that there are more needed extractions ( that's what always happens with Shadow's dentals) and have to do it in 2 sessions anyway.
Shadow's resportive lesions are always an issue and she's had 3 separate dentals with at least 6 teeth extracted each time.
