Hi, Charms numbers are up today again. He has only had the Friskies Pate and boiled chicken . No dry food. Negative for ketones. He is purring and all the other p's. I know I have to be patient but If anyone can take a look at his SS and let me know what they think I would really appreciate it. - Sam
PS Will be raising insulin by .5 in the morning.

Darn phone won't let me see your spreadsheet (*grump*)

If he has been doing a lot of flat numbers like for more than 3 days, this an increase makes sense.

O dear - Charms sure has been giving all the insulins a good test drive. No dose advice from me, but I hope Charms can get on board and find his way to better numbers soon!

Charms has still been giving your those high 400's. I know we were fast tracking you up on the dose, only holding for 2 days or 4 cycles because of those high, flat numbers.

Based on that, an increase is due tomorrow morning.

Please, it's very important to get those "last test before you go to bed" tests every night.

Charms may be a high dose kitty or have some insulin resistance working against him.

If we get to 5U, with no lowering of the numbers, I think it's time for a vet visit and IAA (insulin resistant antibodies) and Agromegaly testing.

How are the 5 P's this evening? Peeing, pooping, purring, preening, playing and the appetite? You said they were ok this morning.

Sam

Sienne asked me the other day about chromium picolinate supplements ...I believe you had inquired about them? Gracie gets a supplement that has chromium in it as a pancreas support and I get it through my vet. But it's not for BG regulation. I asked my vet, who does holistic medicine and Nutrition Response Testing, about the chromium picolinate and here is what she said:

I can understand why the discussion came up - chromium is touted to increase insulin receptor number and receptor sensitivity, but when I looked up info in one of my books on Natural Vet Med they sited several studies where between 100 and 400 micrograms was given twice daily - 1 dog study and 2 cat studies - 1 cat study with diabetic cats - none found a difference with fructosamine levels, blood glucose levels, insulin dosages after 6 weeks to 3 months of supplementation. I always prefer the whole food path rather than single isolated components - as you would get it in real food.

Her last statement is in regard to whole food supplements as opposed to single component supplements. I trust her very much.....she has been on board with our management of Gracies FD from day one. A rare vet.

Let me k ow if you have questions.

Marje - thank you for asking your vet about the chromium supplement. It must be quite a blessing to have a vet who is so knowledgeable. I am kind of on my own with this diabetes thing as my vet has never used Lantus. If it was not for all of the wonderful people like yourself on this message board , Charms and I would have no hope. Desperate to get his numbers down , but it would be foolish to give him a supplement unnecessarily , so I really appreciate this information. - Sam
