So, with her numbers, trending upwards I was wondering if the insulin had anything to do with it as I discussed with Wendy yesterday. I popped open a new vial and gave her her PM dose from the “new” vile this afternoon, and her numbers are even higher…
Here’s the thing… I have three vials of Lantis that I got from a woman I met on Facebook who is diabetic and switched to pens. They were sent to me in the mail in styrofoam with an ice pack. They got here in two days and the weather was in the 40 - 50°F range when they were sent. When they arrived. The gel ice pack was no longer frozen, but they still felt cool, and I opened one of the boxes to look at it, and it was crystal clear, I’m assuming they were OK but of course you never know right. The reason I bought them is because I I can’t afford to pay $200 plus for insulin. However, I was able to get my prescription filled for $35 with the coupon somebody shared on here so I used the insulin that came direct from the pharmacy and figured I would keep the others for back up.
I don’t know if the insulin has anything to do with this upward trend, but it’s possible it has nothing to do with the insulin at all. I just don’t know why all of a sudden she went from downward trend to going back up the numbers I haven’t seen in a long time.
Everyone says that Lantus is good for at least several months as long as you keep it refrigerated. That being said, I have no reason to think that the vial I’ve been using has anything wrong with it aside from the fact that I left it out on accident a couple times for several hours being the longest… maybe 4-5 hrs…the consensus from the people who I’ve asked on here is that it should be fine. (of course people say , you’ll notice it not working, if it’s not OK… Which is the whole reason I am wondering about it)
There is one refill on the prescription from my vet (that I was using, but have not seen in quite some time) that I believe I can get for $35 from the pharmacy. I wanted to save that for when this bottle ran out because I don’t know if this vet is going to refill her prescription when I go back and Basically tell him I’ve been doing things my own way since he prescribed the insulin. I want to try a new vet anyway, and eventually I will have to get a refill, but I was hoping to stay that off possible.
If the insulin I’ve been using, was losing its strength, I don’t know if the vile opened today (provided it’s not compromised) would take time to help her numbers come back down… Filling the depot, etc.
So both insulins could be good, or they both could be bad, or one can be good, and the other can be bad, or it could have nothing to do with the insulin at all.
Maybe the only sure way to figure it out is to get the refill and start with a fresh vile that I know is sound.
I know it’s a mess of a conundrum, but thoughts and advice are welcome please. I could just go back to the vile. I was using for the next few days see if she levels out. It’s just so weird that she’s gone back up to such a high level (comparatively speaking).
