Cleo has 4 P's in place this morning. She had a decent appy for what she refers to as her "pee pee" food. She much prefers her "sugar" food.

Why is the phosphorus so high in some foods???? Do pet food companies add it? Can CKD kitties have human food, like chicken, or hamburger? Do I need a brain transplant this morning???? :lol: :lol:

Just so frustrating for me to watch my good appy kitty turn to this hard to please kitty. When I know I still have her favs sitting in the cabinet, that were ok (in my mind) to feed her on 7/5 morning, but not ok on 7/5 afternoon. I know it is best for her. And we will find some that she likes better, or she will just get used to.

Enough of a rant, I have so much to be grateful for - Thank you LL for all of her help :-D

Hi Jane,

Well done to you both on making it to an OTJ trial! I have my fingers crossed for you.

My sugar cat loved her change in diet but my civvie wouldn't have a bar of wet food. I ended up switching to raw food because they'll both eat it. I often make my own, following Dr Lisa's recipe, because it's cheaper than buying mince from the supermarket. I used salmon water (tinned salmon soaked in water and then cyphon off the water) to make the mince more interesting to my fussy civvie while I was transitioning him. Now he eats it very greedily.

I hope you find something she likes. It's very sad to have to feed them something they don't like. :cry:

I'd check any human food ingredients carefully - things like hamburgers often have added ingredients, including carbs. Cats also need a balanced diet and muscle meat doesn't have enough nutrients (especially calcium and thiamine taurine - I clearly shouldn't post while I'm tired!) for them so human meat wouldn't work as a complete diet.

Phosphorus is an essential nutrient that healthy cats (and all living things need). I don't know why they need a reduction for CKD but it's a trade off - to have their kidneys keep working and keep them alive you give up optimum nutrition in terms of how much phosphorus their body gets.

I'm not thinking, telling you about the raw food that I give my cats - that's not low phosphorus!

Wish i had an answer for you but all i can do is send lots of "find some wonderful, healthy food" vines and prayers for you and Cleo. Maybe she just needs a little time to get used to her new foods and she'll learn to love it. Munch up those fuds Cleo.. they are good for you!!

Morning Jane, congrats on OTJ Trial Day 3 for Cleo. I wish I had my cheerleader emoticons.
That is hard trying to please kitties with lower phophorus foods. I have the same issues with Mags. I have some of the prescription foods, but the taste is not agreeable to them. I'll be watching if you find something.

YAY DAY 3​

It is so hard to find something they like. I threw out so much food in the beginning :roll: But then found the Grammys :-D They better not ever discontinue it nailbite_smile They deal with the EVO thru the day but LOVE the Grammys :-D I hope you find something soon and glad to hear she is eating some :-D Have a great day ;-)

Hi Jane, Hamburger not good for human consumption, LOL Mine are going threw there I don't want that faze :lol:

Whooo Hoooo!!! Day 3!!!

Feeding for both FD and CKD is frustrating. Tess is doing quite well w/ Nature's Variety Instincts Raw, they have several flavors that are quite low in phos. The 2 pound chubs are the most echonomical way to go. And they are high in calories so you don't need to convince them to eat as much.

Cleo is feeling good - she has her Cowboy Cookout and is loving it. Giving her a fat tsp at a time, so I have no pukus!

So, I am off of work tomorrow (Yippee :-D ) Can I test Cleo an hour later than usual? And then just go back to regular time on Thursday am? Or is it still important to keep am/pm testing 12 hours apart.

I am heading out to Petco. They say they have a few cans of Cowboy Cookout left, and I am going to see if they carry the Natures Variety Raw. (Hopefully in a small package to try)

I think it's OK if you test an hour later, just as long as it's without food and the kitties let you wait. :lol:

Nature's Variety raw has sample packs, see if you can get one of them. The raw my kitties get is quite low in phosphorus.
