Relion Lancets -- are there better lancing devices?

Hi. I am having trouble doing Tommy's BG testing with the Relion Lancets. I know most of it is from my inexperience, but is there something better out there that is more consistent? Tom let's me do it, but after five or six attempts he begins to get anxious and wants to run away. I try not to keep him long so as not to have him be afraid of us every time we need to test him.

Thanks for your advice.

Mimi

Rather than rely on the automated feature of the lancet pen holder, I free-hand with the cap off - I can see what I'm doing and my aim is better.

I like the AccuChek SoftClick lancet device. Other people here use and like it as well. Your local pharmacy may have it or you can buy it online. There may be other lancet devices and matching lancets at your pharmacy.

I've only been home testing for three weeks, but I could never get my Frodo to bleed with the Relion lancet (I got myself to bleed only 1 out of 3 tries-so maybe they just aren't very good??). He bled the very first test and maybe the 80th or 90th test (I kid you not -- very stressful and I almost gave up). Then one of the lovely people on this board told me she free-handed using the lancet device with the cap off and I gave it a try. I get blood most of the time now (occasionally way too much and I feel bad). It really is much easier to see what you are doing. I was nervous the first time, but I haven't looked back since. My plan is to give Frodo's ears another 2-3 weeks to develop those capillaries that make them bleed easier, then I'm going to try the lancet pen again. My guess is that the lancet pen with a fine-gauge lancet is least painful for the kitty and if he'll bleed with that, I'm willing to give him the more comfortable method (although that one video about ear testing shows a free-hand poke and that kitty looks as relaxed as can be.)

Hope you figure something out.

Heidi and Frodo

The Relion lancets don't seem to work right. Mine doesn't come out all the way either.

I use my old Freestyle light one. I like it because the tip is clear so you see through it. I'm sure you can buy them separately either in a drugstore, online or at Abbott, the mfr. if you can't find it.

Did you notice the depth adjustment on the side of the lancet pen? You have to twist it to adjust how deep it goes.

Thank you all for your advice. I took the top off and am able to use it that way much better. It took some extra tries still, but that was entirely my fault. In either case I was able to get a reading this morning quicker that way.

I love this board! Thanks again, Mimi
