I've only been home testing for three weeks, but I could never get my Frodo to bleed with the Relion lancet (I got myself to bleed only 1 out of 3 tries-so maybe they just aren't very good??). He bled the very first test and maybe the 80th or 90th test (I kid you not -- very stressful and I almost gave up). Then one of the lovely people on this board told me she free-handed using the lancet device with the cap off and I gave it a try. I get blood most of the time now (occasionally way too much and I feel bad). It really is much easier to see what you are doing. I was nervous the first time, but I haven't looked back since. My plan is to give Frodo's ears another 2-3 weeks to develop those capillaries that make them bleed easier, then I'm going to try the lancet pen again. My guess is that the lancet pen with a fine-gauge lancet is least painful for the kitty and if he'll bleed with that, I'm willing to give him the more comfortable method (although that one video about ear testing shows a free-hand poke and that kitty looks as relaxed as can be.)
Hope you figure something out.
