I tried to get a 6+ for CL since Ive not had a reading in 24 hours. Again no blood. Not even doing it free hand. I poke for about 6 times until I can tell its hurting her. Poor girl is so good to put up with me!! Read a few helpful hints in another post so Im going to try a lower spot on the ear and see if that helps.

You can use the entire edge around the ears, though some places seem to bleed more than others.
If all else fails, aim for the vein if you absolutely need blood (like during a "hypo" scare).

What size gauge are your lancets?

I am using 28 gauge lancets. She is all black and I am also blind!! I have a flashlight that I use and it helps some. I think maybe Im not hitting the vein. Some of the pokes I do get blood but its such a tiny amount that its not enough for the test.

Here s to hitting the sweet spot and a hug for you and CL.
:YMHUG:
I almost have the opposite with Simon these days. I look at his ear and it bleeds. He gives a lot of blood for the cause. I seem to have better luck with testing than with his shot. That is a battle. He seems to want to take off while I am giving it :o :o

But, he does go to his spot and ask me for his shot. He just is a squirmy little guy is all bcatrun_gif

I did not know that you could use the inside of the ear. I may give that a whirl when I am having trouble. This time I did get a decent drop of blood and with only one poke!!
PMPS is 337!! I cant fathom what I'm doing??? I did not do anything any different this time than any other time. Other than tell CL "mommy is going to get this right the first time girl!!"
Maybe I should continue to tell her that each time since it worked!!

I shaved a tiny patch on Wink's ear when I first started testing him. Just used a safety razor. Not so bad now to test him but I still need really bright light to see the blood drop in all that long black hair on his ears.

Oliver had black ears and we always poked from the inside so we could see and so the blood wouldn't get lost in his hair. Glad you got a number. Here's hoping future tests will be easier.
