Yesterday

I refuse to let these high PS's ruin my day!! They don't seem to be affecting Champ in a negative way, but those steep drops yesterday looked like they wore him out. I'm going to try to remember to spread his food out over the first four hours of each cycle and see if I can prevent such a steep drop today.

Well, I must be off to get my work done...must meet the deadlines!! I'll have to put off the fun part of my day, visiting condos, for later this morning.

I hope everyone has a really terrific Thursday!! :-D

Re: 6/9 Champ AMPS 370

Yuckus on those stinkus pinkus numbers, what happened to those pretty blues and greens i know Champ has in him?

Have a Happy Thursday Patty!

Re: 6/9 Champ AMPS 370

Champ is all over the place the last couple of days huh? I'm sorry, but he will turn it around.

Hope you have a great Thursday!

Re: 6/9 Champ AMPS 370

Hi Patty,
I'm wondering if splitting up his food into mini meals like some of us do would help with Champ's steep drops. It looks like he dives pretty steeply after +1 (although it would be helpful if you could get a few more +1 tests here and there to confirm that) so maybe try feeding at PS, +1, +2 and +3? You would want to do that consistently though, not just on cycles when you think he might dive...it sometimes takes a a few weeks or longer for that strategy to smooth things out...so consistency and patience pants time again! I make those meals all the same size, maybe others will chime in with how they do it. What do you think?

Champ come on down to the lower floors!

Re: 6/9 Champ AMPS 370

I like Laurie's suggestion. It's what I do with Gabby. She's prone to big, fast, early drops and feeding over the first 3 hours has seemed to help.

Re: 6/9 Champ AMPS 370

Yuck on the stinkus pinkus ohmygod_smile .....Ok Champ, I know you can come down from there....spreading out his food over the first few hours of the cycle sounds like a good idea....Have a great day, Patty!

Re: 6/9 Champ AMPS 370

hahaha natalia!

"pretty please mr sweet champ, come down and play a little bit lower. you'll like it on the down elevator!"

is that better? ;-)

Re: 6/9 Champ AMPS 370

What a great attitude to take Patty! I'm glad that Champ is a happy boy this morning.. Good idea with the food. I hope that you have a wonderful day :-D . I hope that Champ makes his way down a few floors today.

Re: 6/9 Champ AMPS 370

That's hilarious, Natalia!

C'mon down nice-n-steady, Champ!

And you're right...as long as Champ is feeling good and happy, the PSs don't mean all that much.

Have a great day!

Re: 6/9 Champ AMPS 370

Just a bounce from the 90 of yesterday..not to worry, he will come down-
Yes, the timed feeding may help some--I think you are doing a great job--Hugs from us!

Re: 6/9 Champ AMPS 370

What is Champ doing on the pink floor? I also give Simon some mini meals throughout the day and I think it has helped. At least Champ is feeling fine. Have a great day.

Re: 6/9 Champ AMPS 370, +3 313, +4 309

When there's nothing here to laugh about, all of you can always make me laugh!! Love the picture Natalia!!

Libby and Sienne - I'm going to feed Champ at PS and then +1, +2, and +3. He'll get 1.5 oz at PS because he hasn't eaten for hours before that and is usually hungry, and then 0.5 oz the other times, keeping his wet food intake to 6 oz for the day. I'll give him a few pieces of boiled chicken or freeze-dried treats for any later pokes. I have lots of +2 pokes on Champ's SS. The only time I do a +1 is if his number is a lower yellow (or lower) because I'm just tired of using up test strips. I've said this before and I'll say it again...who knew test strips would be the most expensive part of FD?!!

I really don't think his numbers from today are a normal bounce. He's always been a bit of a bouncer, but this isn't what they typically look like. And if you look at his SS, he hasn't really done anything to bounce from. He's dropped into the 40's and 50's before and not had bounces like this. He always has better numbers in the evening so I'm going to wait to see what happens tonight, but if they don't look to good, I'll probably go ahead and change out the insulin. I bought a pen a couple of weeks ago and it's been sitting in the fridge, waiting to be put into the game!! I'm still using the same vial of insulin since Champ was diagnosed so we're on day 75 of this vial. Because he's still getting numbers under 100 with this vial, I think the insulin is still effective, but maybe new insulin will be the kick in the pants that he needs. If his numbers stay yellow to high blue tonight, I'll switch out the insulin tomorrow since I'll have a lot of time to monitor if necessary.

Anyone have any other ideas or have I covered all the bases?!! :-D

One more thing...I'm going to call Champ's vet today and tell him Champ's symptoms with the wobbly legs and see if he has any ideas on what this could be. I've also noticed that Champ's face, especially around his eyes, twitch sometimes, usually when I'm stroking his head on the top around his eyebrows. I've always petted him like this and he's never had this twitchiness before. I know something is wrong with him, but I'm also pretty sure it's not causing him pain. He is a very stoic cat, though, when it comes to pain so I'm not so sure I would know if he was hurting or not. I do know when the twitching in his face is happening he also seems agitated and is prone to bite. I've checked his BGs at these times and they aren't unusually high or unusually low so I don't think there's a correlation with his levels. I'm trying not to worry, but that's next to impossible!!! He's my baby and the only one in my household who doesn't talk back and give me grief!! :-D

Re: 6/9 Champ AMPS 370, +3 313, +4 309

You know i've noticed the same thing with Leo, the twitching.....makes me wonder if it's related to insulin. Sometimes i'll feel his shoulders and arms and i can feel twitching in his shoulders. I notice that when he's on his way down to lower numbers, like in a hurry the twitching comes out. It's not all the time though, and not in his face, just shoulders and arms. He doesn't have wobbly front legs though.

Maybe i should send Leo's doc an email, i can ask him all sorts of questions through email and not get charged for it!! Or if you take Champ in, let me know what your vet figures it is. I've always thought it was related to insulin since it's close in proximity to where i inject.

I seriously thought my work day would never end. Now I get to go visit some condo's. Hope all the eastcoasters haven't gone to bed yet!

I';m a little late in chiming in here - but I too feed on the ps, +1, +2, +3. It has done wonders for Mannie, who is too a great diver and bouncer. Feeling this way did help to level him out, lessened the dives and the bounces. It doesn't happen overnight though, and you have to be consistent, feed that way every day. It was a while before I saw a definitive change in Mannie.

I hope no clue on the twitching, but I too would check with the vet. I hope that it is noting serious. Good luck!
