Hi all! It's been a long time since I've posted, but that doesn't mean I have been absent....long time lurker, that's me. This is going to be kinda long......

Anyway, I'm boarding Nova for the first time starting Friday. :nailbiting: Actually bringing her in on Thurs. night after her shot. I need a bit of advice on what to advise my vet for the instructions for the facility. The owner of the facility will not take my word for the dosing, and needs the vet to email her.

On a normal week, I would know what to dose her, but we have not had a normal week or more. I did the usual shave of her dose after a drop into the 30s on the 31st, she had a slight bounce and then we went camping for 5 days. She must really like hanging in the camper because she freaked me out with lower than usual numbers and I gave her a BCS and then dropped the dose for safety, since I wasn't testing as usual. BUT that little missy decided to dive and we had another reducie this morning. Currently at 1.25units. She blue bounced today.

She has not had this low a dose since probably a year ago (almost to the day)! What would you recommend the dose be at the "Cat Lodge"? I'm thinking 1/2 unit?

For a bit of info on my vet.....I had to have the Noves get her distemper, etc. vaccine, and I mistakenly told her Nova's 30 day average. Well, she was like, "that's good...Oh wait...that means she went lower than that?" Like an idiot I said...."of course... human meters are lower than the alpha track and those are good numbers, but not consistent".....and basically trailed off. (Nova was at a 2f dose) I think she thought I should have either lowered or stopped insulin.

I await any sage advice you can provide...The facility has experience with lantus pens using a syringe.

Thank you in advance!

How much testing will happen while you are gone? Do you think Nova will eat her usual amount there?

I don't believe they will test at all, but I will double check...they only mentioned that she eat before her shot. They feed all the cats from 6-7 and from 8-9 administer meds. If her bowl is full, she will eat when she wants, like she did camping.

So, I am assuming no testing is done, and Nova will eat in bits and spurts, but the same amount.

I was wondering if you could go to 1.0 unit tomorrow, and if that's enough time to see what her numbers would do on that dose. And give time to drain the depot. Plus it's on the line.

I could do that. :) Thanks, makes total sense.
