This is day 4 of the flagyl. Bailey is still eating normally and I am watching his hydration levels. He seems a little less energetic than normal. I am supplementing with Fortiflora.

He is throwing up once a day and has 4-5 bowel movements. Most are barely formed soft serve ice cream except one last night which was thick custard liquid.. after that I started him on canned pumpkin and he didnt have another bowel movement for 6 hours which is good.. and the next poop was soft serve again.
So most of the time its not really diarrhea i.e. its not explosive or liquid (except for that one last nightz0.. Tomorrow morning I run out of Flagyl so it will be interesting to see what happens then as I am not convinced its making a difference - and he will need to be off it anyway for the vet to run tests etc if/when we get to that.

This also has been going on now for a week so I am also not convinced it was something he ate any more. I am wondering about pancreatitis, hyperthyroidism or exocrine pancreas insufficiency.. the last two because he is a 7lb cat that eats 4-5 cans of FF a day on his own and isnt putting on weight. His stools tend to be bigger and fluffy and smelly a lot of the time. And his BG regulation isnt that bad.

He is overdue his annual bloodwork etc but we are kinda broke right now with the tests on Tiggy and ongoing maintenance of Bonnie... but if this keeps up we will need to deal with it.

Wendy

PS Bonnie update - still doing well. 3 months now since the vet said to put her down! She seems happy although she is disabled and cant move around any more.. she doesnt seem to care.. being an old bunny its not like she did the bunny 100 anyway. her congestion has cleared up and appetite etc is back to normal. Its more time intensive for me than anything - I have to change her bed and wash her butt twice a day plus give her 3 different meds. But at the same time I get more cuddles and spend more time with her - and she gives me kisses more than she used to so its kinda nice.

PPS Cookie peed on my keyboard again.

PPPS I need a holiday.

Re: 6/8 Bailey AMPS 268 - soft stool continues/bonnie update

Fortiflora can also cause harder stools if Bailey likes that. Bonnie is a trooper and so are you, Wendy. :-D

French Riviera or Bora Bora?

Good to hear about all the snuggling time you get with Bonnie.

One of the side effects of Flagyl is diarrhea and constipation. Vomiting too.

From WebMD:
Dizziness, headache, diarrhea, nausea, stomach pain, loss of appetite, constipation, changes in taste, and dry mouth may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

This drug may cause urine to darken in color. This is harmless.

Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.

Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: unsteadiness, seizures, mental/mood changes (such as confusion), numbness/tingling of hands/feet, painful urination.
