Zen's Freestyle Libre, while still attached to his body, is no longer functional. I'm sure he managed to somehow traumatize it enough into submission. Oh, well-- I was looking forward to the full play-by-play this and next week, but it's not that big of a deal. We'll just go back to BID ear pricks (and more if needed), and he'll be thrilled to not be wearing a shirt anymore. :woot: We'll see if the vet really wants to place another, or if she's happy enough with the results to release him. Fingers crossed!

Zen was very steady for the bit of the evening that I have data for, he ate the leftover food in his bowl overnight ( :woot::woot::woot:) and he even let me sleep until my alarm went off! I feel like I'm seeing a little more of my bub everyday, between the green numbers and the Zobaline taking effect on his legs. Going to weigh him in a bit to see if his weight is holding steady and not continuing to increase as it has been.

Happy Monday, beans! Hope your kitties stay steady and surf safely for you today! :bighug:

Just called the vet and confirmed-- the ear medication he went on in Feb was Tresaderm, which contains dexamethasone! Between the high-carb dry food, the stress of being at the vet all day for his yearly echocardiogram, and the steroids for his ears, I think we have our smoking gun for why Zen's labs looked so great in February and he somehow ended up on death's doorstep in March, friends!

Terrific numbers, Emily!!!!!!! Nothing over 70 since he has been in the trial. What happened in Feb. and March? Your ss doesn't go back that far and I see you didn't sign up until April. You might have mentioned it but was he really, really sick in March? Was it the medication along with the high carb food and steroids? Maybe all three, huh. Well, just look at your boy now! I'm sure he will be thrilled to not have to wear the shirt.

Thank you, Summer! We just talked to the specialist vet today and as long as he continues to do well at home, he's officially been released! :woot:

Re: February and March-- gosh, what a long story. The short version is that he went into the vet for a routine checkup and his yearly echocardiogram. His labs were beautiful and so was his echo, but he had an ear infection and we had been sightly too successful getting him to lose weight. He went home with ear drops and a diet change (one dry food to another dry food). Two weeks later, he was continuing to lose weight and wasn't eating well, and had diarrhea. We switched him back to his old food, but nothing got better. We called in a prescription for an antibiotic thinking he had a stomach bug. Still no good, and we couldn't even get him to eat tuna. By this time, it's Mid-March. We brought him back to the vet thinking we were going to get a terminal diagnosis, and that's when we found out he was in DKA. He stayed in the hospital for 5 days, had crazy high highs and low lows (thanks to the dry food), and when we got him home, we were trying to fix his BG and also get him to put on weight all at the same time. There's so much more, but suffice to say, it's been a rollercoaster of a few months. I'm just glad he's getting back to his old self again. ❤️
