Georgia and Simon (GA)

This is a nice surprise this morning! The only bad thing is that I have another meeting outside of the office and won't be able to come home for lunch to check Simon. DH is such a sweetie and has offered (once again) to come home and make sure Simon is doing ok. I definitely need to keep this guy!

Squirrel alert!! There is a squirrel in our fireplace and we are not sure how to get him out. Every time we open the screen to get him out and run to the outside door, he goes up the chimney and we can't see him. We are hoping he is able to climb out, but just in case, DH put some water and nuts in the fireplace.  So far, no nuts have been eaten, so maybe he is able to get out and just likes hanging out in the fireplace. Needless to say, Simon is very excited about the squirrel. He will sit in front of the fireplace for hours -- his very own movie! If anyone has any ideas on how to get this squirrel out, please let me know.

Have a great day, everyone!

Hi guys .. Now that's what I'm talking about! What an awesome start to the day, and thanks to your DH who will make sure he stays safe! How crazy about the squirrel .. fun for simon, not so fun for you guys .. No advice on how to get him out .. my grandma had a bat in her fireplace once, but he let it be known he was there by flying out at night  have a great day!

Wow! Nice greens Simon! That is a great surprise. So sweet of DH to come home and check on him. You definitely have a keeper. :-D

No ideas on the squirrel. I would bet he can get out as long as the top isn't capped. At least you don't have to leave animal planet on and Simon can just watch the squirrel. Have a great day Georgia!

Gorgeous start for Simon, and so nice that DH will go home to check on him!

The squirrel...I assume the fireplace is too small to house a Hav-A-Heart trap? Is he just hanging out in the chimney, or is he all the way in the firebox? I bet if you google it, you'll find some humane options and ideas.

Have a great day, Georgia!

The 234 is probably from giving Simon some MC food at lunch. DH came home to test and Simon was 70 and did not eat the LC food. DH figured it was better that he eat something, so he gave him some MC. Good decision since he probably would have gone lower without any food.

Amy, great idea about the trap. I'll have to see how big they are but good idea on googling the squirrel issue. Will do that tonight. The squirrel was banging away in the fireplace when I came home tonight with Simon right there watching.

Have a good evening -- I'm off to yoga for a little de-stressing.

If you get a trap, or just want to lure out the squirrel, the animal control officers I know recommend peanut butter as the bait. It works for a number of rodents. This winter we had a mouse in the attic and used a humane trap with peanut butter. Fortunately he went out of the attic and we managed to close his access before he got back in.

Nice run of greens today for Mr. Simon.
