Yesterday's Thread

It's a Steady Sunday! Zen wanted food at about 2am last night, and as soon as we put it down for him, he decided it wasn't worth it. And subsequently, I was awoken with nuzzles and purrs, and butts in my face at about 5am. :p Fed him about 6:30a (PM+12.5) like I always do, and he's been in the 40's and 50's all day. He's getting 1/4 can of DM pate at around AMBG, AM+3, +6, +9, PMBG, and PM+3. And if he really wants some food overnight, we leave another 1/4 can out for him that he never eats.

The Libre showed some super weird data point of him being at 86 at one point, but it's surrounded by readings in the 50's 12 minutes before and 20 minutes after... I'm not buying it. Libre is on day 9 out of 14, so I think it's just starting to wear out. But even so, a reading of 86 isn't the end of the world.

I've been going back through Simba's threads just because his journey is so fascinatingly similar to Zen's, and I discovered something interesting here that was a little bit of a lightbulb moment today. When Zen came home from the vet in Feb and had started his downhill descent into diabetes (and eventually DKA), he had been given some ear drops for an ear infection. I thought I'd held onto the drops, but I can't find them for the life of me. I wonder if they were just antibiotics/antifungal (it was a yeast infection in his ears) or if they had steroids in them! Maybe moot at this point, but I'm curious, so I'm going to try to find out from the vet tomorrow. (Side note: I saw the value in posting yesterday's thread at the top of all of your daily posts before, but now I REALLY see it. So glad you all do this, and the system is pretty brilliant, I must say.)

Hope everyone's having a nice, lazy Sunday. I'm going to catch up on some of the work I missed this week while I was too sleepy to function. <3

From the same Simba thread:

Simba used to chew through bags of white bread to get to it. I got a bread box :D

I'm starting to feel like Simba and Zen are long lost brothers! We got this thing for the EXACT same reason. o_O:joyful::joyful::joyful:

I love that you found Zen's Swedish twin sugar brother who also loved bread! :p Would be curious to know if his diabetes was indeed steroid induced. Anyway, happy day 3!!! :D:D:D

I checked the message board and saw this incident had been brought up... ironically, Simba made his way through a bag of mini pastries left out on the table last night. I can’t make this stuff up!!! Old habits die hard :D

Amazing how similar Zen’s journey through diabetes has been. OTJ trial is going so well, I wish Zen a full remission. :bighug:
