Started new syringes, forgot to change calipers so she got 1.34mm instead of 1.24 (SureComfort vs Monoject) :banghead:. I did not squeeze the last drop out so it was just shy. Fed 1tsp 10%. Fortunately, I'm able to test and we're not currently living on the edge of lime.

Sore throat, sticky syringe, long story short: mistakes were made :(

Oh, and there was vomit

Yesterday :cool: started sunny, went smooth blue with a dash of green. I like yesterday, yesterday was good

Don't be too hard on yourself. :bighug: I once gave 4U instead of 2U! :confused:

Sorry to hear about the vomit. Is that even after Ondansetron and no canned food?

I'm thinking you want to consider an increase depending on how she does today. Unless you want to try a new pen first. Though I wonder if something else is causing the higher numbers, appetite loss, vomiting etc - pancreatitis, IBD etc.

I was running low on ondan so cut in quarters versus thirds, but still every 8 hours & give the biggest chunk at night. The only thing close to can food is the pill pockets & she did get a good bit yesterday because she likes them, but was getting wise to the pill so I was adding 1 or 2 pea sized 'empties' to her test treat (1/8 tsp unsalted sardine). I read the ingredients and pondered if it could be an issue. There's also sugar. This morning I used just enough to wrap the pill and freeze it so the pill doesn't dissolve, then stuck that into a bit of sardine. That went right down

I'm going to call the vet today & get more ondansetron & see what she says about a SNAP test, but from what I've read about pancreatitis & IBD, it's still mostly managing symptoms

Greenies pill pockets are not low carb, but if that's the only way you can get pills into her... then you have no choice... Does she like cheese? Some people use cheese to wrap pills.

With pancreatitis and IBD flares it is indeed about managing symptoms (I have no personal experience with either... just what I've read here). Though for IBD you also have diet change and steroids as options. Anyway, my point was that if she's suffering flares of either, that could explain the higher numbers and other symptoms.

thanks for the input. I'm going to try just the minimum amount of pill pocket to wrap the pill so it doesn't dissolve in the sardine. I tried the same with just sardine, & it dissolved too fast (sardine has a lot of liquid). I noticed her being 'urpy' last night so was not surprised about the vomit. No fur though so I can't pass blame.

Not feeling great (sore throat) & will try to catch up some sleep in between testing this morning then think on it a bit. I'm not too worried about the dose, it wasn't very much & was on the 1u line of the syringe. I added a small drop of honey to the +3 test treat to slow her jets down a smidge

and she just vomited again while I was typing, so I'm giving another 1mg ondansetron & adding some pepcid to a bit of sardine

As I was cleaning up, noticed a good amount of fur in the overnight batch, but the second not the same thing at all

Finally did the math and I gave her a little less than 1 1/8 dose. Totally answers my question from yesterday about if (when using calipers) a dose ever bumped up by that much - no, she doesn't need it :blackeye:
@Wendy&Neko

On the down side, I need a new way to get the ondansetron in her :(. She'd gotten wise to the pill pockets anyway which is why I was giving her empties. They were never larger than a small pea. I tried just enough to cover the 1mg pill, frozen then mixed with the sardine, and by the third test she was quite effectively picking it out. My daughters cat inhales the pill pockets wrapped around his 15mg seizure meds. Maus swallows nothing whole

Started with a meatloaf, finished with a roll, and in the middle, a sea of honey sweet green to be taken with a grain of salt. All's well that ends well, at least for today
