6/5 - Zen - AMBG 59 - OTJ Trial Day 2

Yesterday's thread

Zen has started to creep out of the 50's and into the 60's as his baseline. I still feel good about that, just hope that he stays low as the days go on. We're switching him to an "every 3 hour" feeding schedule instead of an "every 2 hour" today, and I think that's going to help us see the him peak and then come back down from the food a little better. It stormed yesterday (finally!) and Zen is terrified of storms (not exactly living up to his namesake...), so I fed him 1 tsp Savory Selects right before the storm (AMBG+8) so that 1) he wouldn't dip too low and 2) we could actually see what a food peak looks like for him. He came back down at about AMBG+11, so pancreas appears to be working!

Zenny woke me up this morning to ask for breakfast, and from the looks of the SureFeed, either hubby fed him last night or he fed himself (which would be even more ideal). I'll ask him when he wakes up. (He takes the night shift; I take the morning shift.)

Happy Caturday, all! Hope your babes are all happy, steady, and safe today. :bighug:

BTW, I finally heard back from Tiki Cat about their nutritional values! Posted here. Susanne, you had expressed interest, so I tagged you over there. :cat:

Happy Day 2 :D:D

BTW when a cat is no longer receiving exogenous insulin, you don't need to worry about Zen "dropping low". I personally would just stick to regular low carb (though the DM Savory Selects technically is at 10% but that's the upper limit of LC...and of course food the cat will eat is always the most important factor :cat:).

Thanks again for reaching out to Tiki - so nice they responded!

Thanks, Susanne! We think he might just holding onto a teensie bit of insulin in the depot still, but that should be gone by end of day tomorrow. The nights have been much more restful. :coffee:

I guess maybe...though smaller dose = smaller depot. you had a skip before doing the drop (i.e. helped drain the depot) and then were only on a drop dose and now have had 4 cycles of no insulin...I imagine that depot is gone and Zen's pancreas is picking up the load (and paws crossed it continues to!). Of course I'm by no means and expert and you are totally right that 6 cycles after no insulin should be an empty depot :p Have I dropped of Simbas SS before? Look at his OTJ trial

Wooooooooow!!! Bhooma had sent me his SS before (because similar to Simba, Zen switched off of the dry food and all of a sudden he went running on down the ladder), but I never paid attention to how low his numbers were during the OTJ trial!!! I didn't want to assume the low numbers were normal and become complacent, but dang-- I guess maybe they are! Paws crossed! Thanks, Susanne!!!
