6/5 Monkey AMPS 482

I’m not convinced it’s lack of insulin. 8 days ago 1 unit was getting Monkey down to 59 and a Preshot of 92.
I think he is definitely bouncing.
Have you done anything else different?. Are you sure he’s not getting into dry food if the others are having it?

Nothing else different. He is not getting into any dry food since I set a strict rule of no dry food for any cats for 3 days.

I see your point. I injected 1 U. Yes, vet will see him 2 hours later. And I collected Monkey's
urine 10 minutes ago. Hope this help.
Ask the vet to test for ketones as well as any infection please.
Am really interested to hear what vet thinks. Please let us know when you can.
Can you keep Monkeys SS updated as you take his BGs please as I check several times a day to see how he’s going. Thx.
Also try and get a test during Pen Pens cycles please
Good luck at vets!

Late Update: Monkey's +6 BG is 167. Monkey is doing generally fine today except he is not used to the fish oil I add to them. Btw, would it be more convenient for you if I post a new post on my thread to update you every time I check BG?

I have fed Monkey + 3 and +6. At +6 he does not eat much. Given that his BG drop so drastically, I think I should have give him more food at +2 and +4. (But I failed to due to I was not very organized in today's schedule). Also, I am pushing gradually the insulin time to be 8:30am. So I have more control of Monkey's BG. I wish I know these one month ago and be more flexible.

The vet found out Monkey:
1. Has fungus on his skin. Gave fungus meds.
2. Red dots on his belly is due to hygiene problem. Probably my home is not perfectly clean. I will investigate this. Vet gave me sanitizer to clean his skin.
3. High level of white blood is alleviated however it is still high which shows that there is inflammation. 2 weeks of antibiotics.
4. The behavior of eating pica may due to lack of iron. However, the doctor prefer to give only vitamin B supplement first.
5. keep the 1 U Lantus dose.
6. Monkey has gingivtis in his teeth. Vet told me brush his teeth daily.

In addition, vet told me to give diabetic prescription dry food. He is an ethical person who help clients to save money, however even sponsored AAHA advise diabetic cat to eat low carbs. I will not follow this advice.

Also, I want to add that PenPen break his lowest AMPS record: 103 today.

Thank you Peter for the detailed update.
It sounds like the vet has done a good job today.....except for the recommendation of the dry food;) and I’m glad you are not following that advice.

If you are going to clean his teeth, you will need to buy a baby toothbrush and toothpaste that is for cats. DONT USE HUMAN TOOTHPASTE. IT IS TOXIC TO CATS.
It will Take time for Monkey to get used to Cleaning his teeth so just start off doing it for a very short time in the beginning.....like a few seconds. I clean Harry’s teeth every night and he has beautiful teeth but I have been doing it since he was 6 months old. It might be easier to start off with a small piece of cloth and just put it on your finger and rub around the teeth so he gets used to something in his mouth. Make sure you clean the piece of cloth each day.

Working out when to give Monkey the food to stop the fast drops takes time to work out but it is good you can see where you could have done it today. It will take time for him to stop bouncing.

When the antibiotics start to work we may see the BGs go down a bit more hopefully. The higher WCC could be contributing to the higher BGs.
Did the vet test the urine for the Ketones and infection?

No, there is no need to add a post each time you update the SS unless you need to communicate something.

Pen Pen is looking great! And you are doing very well with both of them!

My apology, I forgot to mention that the vet gave me a sterile container for pee sample and give him the sample another day. I will give him ASAP. (My pee sample container should have arrived on this Monday, late delivery ruin my plan)

In addition, he said Monkey's ketone is expected to be high. Also, he assures me that Monkey is not likely to have stones because X-ray does not show them.

Thanks for your encouragement. It feels good to receive praise:smuggrin:. Btw today I suspect I did furshot to PenPen:rolleyes:

:p:p:p Yes, my dedication is, a acceptable standard of cat care, except I am not very precise at timing of checking and feeding. I thank you beautiful people from the bottom of my heart. The world becomes a better place because of good people like you. I can never imagine I can receive that much help online. It is just miracle.

You're doing ok Peter. First 4 cats are a LOT and two with diabetes? thats a TON of worries. Pen Pen is looking good and Monkey will too. Its the dedication that makes this all work. and you GOTZ that. ;):)
