6/5 Dimi - AMPS 71

Feeling a little worried. Dimi's appetite has been off for the past two weeks. He ate very little yesterday. Ate a few bites of dinner, but then came back to it at some point overnight/early am, and then vomited it up. The amount of vomit would suggest that he didn't keep any of it down. He's not generally a vomiter except when he eats certain plants or has a hairball.

After last vet visit, I started giving him Miralax, and wondered if that could be the cause, but looking at my spreadsheet, I noted low appetite before the Miralax, so not sure what's going on. Hate it when my little guy doesn't feel well. :(

Is it a new food for him? Maybe if he was used to something else it takes some time to like it?
Bella had some vomiting at night events early on, Bhooma Bandit's mom suggested to feed her smaller amounts more often so she would not stay as long between meals. It really helped. You still want to feed during the first part of the cycle and not close to shot time, but smaller amounts more often, with the same amount over the day, if that makes sense?

Thanks for your ideas. He had one can of new food a few days ago that he loved, but otherwise, the same food he has been eating for months. He's a grazer, so I leave food out and he usually eats small amount throughout the day.

Has he been tested for pancreatitis? If not I would have the vet run a SpecfPL.

After his first hospitalization for DKA he had an abdominal ultrasound. The vet said there was some slight inflammation of the pancreas, but nothing too concerning. That was at then end of January. He hasn't been tested for anything since then, unless he was tested the second time he was hospitalized in early Feb. Is pancreatitis something that comes and goes, or is it one of those things that once you have it, you have it?

Chronic pancreatitis comes and goes. Max’s started a few years before he became diabetic. Cats can get an acute form of it and once gone sometimes never have another episode. The acute form is more serious though. My first sign of it with Max was picky eating or inappetence. You would not need another ultrasound. The blood test, SpecfPL can diagnose it. If being picky about food that can be a sign of nausea. Grazing is good fir pancreatitis as eating too much at once can make them feel yucky.

Thanks, Elise. He seemed better today but I'll bring him to the vet and have him checked out if it continues.
