Any kind of inflammation, infection, pain etc can cause BGs to spike. I see from the comments that she has a UTI for which she is on amoxycillin? Is she high from seeing the vet yesterday or the food change and my inability to figure out carbs? I am so lost right now.
I suspect she's had this infection for awhile. When we adopted her in October, she had diarrhea and was peeing all the time. Even once we had her BG pretty controlled, she was still peeing a lot. The fecal showed a bacterial infection and she has a UTI, too. I expected her numbers to drop once the infection started to clear, but it's been the opposite. Nothing's changed as far as poop consistency. It doesn't stink as much. I'm going to call the vet in a bit and ask about sugars in the meds. They do seem sticky.Any kind of inflammation, infection, pain etc can cause BGs to spike. I see from the comments that she has a UTI for which she is on amoxycillin?
Is the antibiotic causing any side effects like appetite loss or diarrhea, vomiting etc? Some cats cannot tolerate Clavamox.
It's for the bacterial infection. I have a message in to the vet. I'd bet they both have sugar. GAH!!!!!If the flagyl and amoxycillin are in syrup form, they may contain sugar. Both are available in pill form.
It will take a few days on the antibiotic for the infection to clear. If I remember right, flagyl can constipate. What is she getting it for?
Can they give you pill forms of both meds?I can't stop the antibiotic can I? These numbers are awful!
I know the amoxicillin she can't get in pill form anymore. The other one I'll ask about when she's back on Monday.....unless I see her tomorrow-her daughter is my daughter's BFF! Helpful at times! Can they give you pill forms of both meds?
Why?I know the amoxicillin she can't get in pill form anymore.
She said the person who used to compound it for her stopped handling it.Why?
I didn't get the names of what was in the poop or pee. At the time, Kahlua was covered in poop and we were trying to contain the mess and clean. I know she was on Metronidazole in October, when we first adopted her. The loose stools never really stopped completely. It will go away for a day or 2, but then return.Sugars in the meds for sure. I don’t understand why they didn’t give you pills (especially the Flagyl). I also don’t understand why not Amoxicillin pills. I can order them myself from a number of different sites. Flagyl (Metronidazole) is very effective at treating diarrhea as it has both antibacterial, anti protozoal, and anti inflammatory properties in the gut. If she responds to it and the diarrhea improves and then it returns after she’s been off of it for a little while, then that will point you to IBD. Try another course of it and see. I had a situation like this and just said, “yep. IBD” so I took my baby for an ultrasound and had it confirmed. I saw what you said in Christina’s thread about your husband not wanting to do an ultrasound so I’m not telling you to do that right now. Hopefully, he will come around.
My kitties don’t usually have appetite problems with Flagyl. I give food right afterwards, of course.
Did they tell what they cultured out of her stool? The name of the organism? What about the urinalysis? Did they specify the organism or just say that there were cocci in there?
It’s just AmoxiDrops, right? Not Clavamox (which also comes in a liquid). She should not have as many problems with regular Amoxicillin as she might (ECID) with Clav.
Update me on Mouse when you get a chance. If you have a post for today, I will move over there so as not to resurrect yesterday’s for too much longer.I didn't get the names of what was in the poop or pee. The ultrasound is for Mouse. I have 2 sick kitties right now. Although Kahlua seems just fine......just stinky!
The Amoxicillin is Biomox....pink liquid.

Hi Maria, I just wanted to let you know if your kitty does well on liquid meds they can formulate them without sugar. Hopefully you won’t need to give any in the future but if she does need any kind of liquid med going forward, request sugar free. I hope she is feeling better. I could not pill my kitty so I became fairly familiar with liquid meds. Hope you both have a good Sunday. It's for the bacterial infection. I have a message in to the vet. I can't imagine pilling her.....but she's a master at clamping her mouth shut and refusing to swallow.Hi Maria, I just wanted to let you know if your kitty does well on liquid meds they can formulate them without sugar.
