Zener is doing ok this morning. He was having a picnic on the patio when he went into stalk mode! He must have seen the mouse at the composter. :lol: :lol: I had to bring him back for his shot and he growled at me. :shock: So he was feeling just a bit feisty. He got a 0.05 ml dose of gabapentin and he didn't seem to like the taste. I put it in his cheek pouch but maybe that's not the best choice. Does anyone know about that? We will also ask our vet this afternoon when we take him for an acupuncture treatment.

Thinking of ailing kitties and beans. Paws crossed for Juno's OTJ trial. Happy Wednesday, LL!

Kitties hate to be interrupted when they're in stalking mode! Aww, Mama! I had that mousie right where I wanted him! Now he got away and I gotta wait for another chance! :-x :lol:

No idea about the gabapentin. Is it absorbed through the skin? If it were a pill I would expect him to spit it out. I hope it works for Zener, however it's delivered. Good luck with the acupuncture.

I guess Zener really wanted to get that mouse. I hope everything goes well with his acupuncture appointment.

Hi Anne and Liz,

So nice that Zener was jumping on his kitty condo yesterday and even nicer to see him have a blue PMPS. I am unfamiliar with some of the meds you are giving Zener so I can't offer any comment about placement. I hope all goes well at Zener's first acupuncture appt. Paws crossed that Zener turns things around and heads back down to the lagoon.

Feisty is good stuff! I don't know about the gaba, but I hope both it and the acupuncture help with his hips. I'm looking forward to hearing how his appointment went!

Well, I guess today counts as a Zener slide. Kind of sedate, though, compared to his typical. :lol: I hope it keeps going.

We took Zener to the vet today for acupuncture. She put in about 20 needles :shock: down the spine and then down the rear legs. One configuration is called the "kidney tiara". She also applied a little current between some pairs of needles, so Zener got a little extra "juice" today. :lol: We think he is feeling better. He came home and did yard patrol, including checking out the catnip.

The gabapentin is compounded so we squirt a little in his mouth. I don't think it tastes very good. I'm going to call the pharmacy and ask if they added any flavor. It is oil suspended so no sugar base. Yay.

Oooh - I like a feisty Zener! We did some Gabapentin for a bit but it was pill form. Buster took it, but I can't say he liked it cause, well he's a cat! I think it's a pretty good pain med if you can get it in 'em. It didn't make Buster spacey like Tramadol. Continue that slide, Z-man...bring it...on...down...to...funky town!

I think the gabapentin is meant to be given PO, i.e. to be swallowed and absorbed through the GI tract. Bupe is given in the cheek pouch because its mode of administration is trans-mucosal, i.e. to be absorbed through the skin of the cheek. I think the gabapentin needs to be be swallowed to be effective.

Thank you Linda, that is what our vet told us too this afternoon. Liz called the compounding pharmacy and it has liver flavor in the gabapentin. Maybe he isn't a liver fan. Next time we will ask them to use tuna.

Yeah for yellow! :-D :-D At least it's better than that other color. ;-) His fur looks so shiny in that picture of his back end and the catnip plant.

How did Zener act during the acupuncture? I've seen it done with a dog and have heard some cats get sleepy. Interesting on the gabapentin. Neko loves her chicken flavored bupe.

I have thought about getting acupuncture for Simon so I'm interested in following Zener and his acupuncture episodes. Acupuncture always seemed to help me with my chronic neck pain. I'm also on gabapentin and it has helped tremendously with pain, especially the burning/tingling issues. I don't think I will ask for the liver flavored pill! :lol: Hope it also helps Zener.
 
Looks like the Z Man enjoyed his accupuncture: he headed straight for the catnip! Good luck with the meds. Time for a slide, Zener!
