Lovely question I know but last night Shakes threw up 3 times (kinda small amounts)
I have been taking him outside everyday for exercise and he eats some grass...fine
but this moring he threw up grass and what looked like dirt
...never seen that before..he was ok this moring and even drove me crazy to go outside before i left.
but does anyone know about the almost like coffe grind throw up?

thanks and hope verone has a great day

I haven't seen any coffe-grind throwup, so I can't help you out.
Alex vomited yesterday, right after dinner (all food) and it freaked me out too.
My kitties aren't outside cats, but they both do enjoy chewing on a little grass.

I'm sure someone will have an answer for you today.

Have a good one!

Don't know about coffee grind vomit. Could it have been coffee grinds in the dirt? Squamee used to chew my plants, and I had the feeling that she did it when she wanted to vomit---to help with a hairball. But who really knows?

I think they all talk to each other somehow....this is the 3rd cat that was throwing up yesterday/today! Doesn't the coffee grind vomit mean something in people? I would keep an eye out....or maybe call the vet.

Htanks everyone...I heard it meant something onm people but I am not sure what
I will call the vet this morning....

Thanks and have a great day!

Maybe he just pulled the grass up and ate some dirt along with it.

I don’t let my current cats outside but my previous cat China went outside and always threw up after eating grass. Always.

I can’t keep any plants or flowers inside the house (except cactus  ) because my guys will chew away on all of it.

I think my boy Petey might attempt to chew on a cactus if I had it around. I have never seen a cat chew things like he does!

Coffee ground vomit can mean partly digested blood from a GI bleed. If it were my cat I'd take him to the vet along with a vomit sample. Hopefully it is nothing, but if he ate something that caused problems, you want to be on top of it before a holiday weekend. How are Shakes' stools? Are they dark at all? Any blood that isn't digested may be passed along in the stool, so if they are dark and tarry that is also a sign. Here is a brief article that explains the coloring: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coffee_ground_vomiting

That is good information Wendy. Sounds like the wise thing is to get Shakes to the vet, just to be on the safe side.

Both Shaikha and my GA Tabriz had GI bleeds, so I'm always alert for symptoms, and coffee ground vomit or tarry stools are definitely things you don't ignore. The same symptoms apply to humans, incidentally, who have GI bleeds.

Thanks everyone, I called my vet and told them and my regular vet was not there
but the other vet said to watch him and if he does it again bring him in
but it could just be the grass, so dont let him eat anymore grass
HHMMM...

Well, you can watch him and check out his stools and get him in tomorrow?

I know this is a stupid question, but no chance he got into the trash and ate coffee grounds?

Hi Sue, welcome back! missed you!!
no his stool has actually been very light in color,
and a few times it has been white.....(yes I think I know that means it is his liver)

OK, I have to say this thread title did NOT draw me in LOL! Next time I would try "cute kitten pictures!!!" to lure us in, and then hit us with the barf questions.

Hope it was just dirt! I have read too that coffee-ground-vomit is a reason to call the vets. Hopefully he is back to normal now!

One of the many, many reasons I love FDMB is you can put the word vomit in a subject line and people WILL read it

In humans, coffee ground throw up can mean ulcers/ GI bleeding.
Hope Shakes is better today and no more vomiting.
Light colored stool in humans can mean malabsorption, liver or pancreas problems, don't know about in cats.
