Yesterday's numbers for Mona looked pretty darn good, but she's still above 120 for most the day. Should I keep her off insulin? Her numbers at the times I would shoot aren't very high.

Hmmm I'm wondering if maybe we could just manipulate her food to bring her down the rest of the way either by feeding smaller meals more often or something that is slightly less carbs.
Because with a 74 at +6 yesterday if you put her back on its gonna have to be a microdose.

Right now how often is she eating and if you know off hand what the carb % is?

While I was home, I was putting food down at am, +6, and pm, though in practice she grazes all day. She was free-fed on dry food up until going on the D/M 2 months ago, so she's used to little bits all day. It's uncommon for their bowls to be empty, except occasionally the hour or two before the next food is set to be put down.

I also posted on the tight regulation board for opinions since I noticed that there are so many people over there, and someone also recommended trying a timed feeder. Several think a drop dose is a good idea, too, since she's soooo close, but still a little high. I think I'll try that to see what happens.

Yep that would be my best suggestion as well because she needs a little more support but not much. I'd put her back on a fat zero. Because she obviously has a working pancreas just not fully working yet. The other option would be lowering the carb percentage. Which works in theory although I can't convince Autumn to stay on Fancy Feast when the rest of my gang gets Friskies and neither my wallet or time is going to allow everyone to eat Fancy Feast ..(just so not opening 40 cans a day)

Oh, I forgot to answer that part. The food she's on now is 9%, so lots of room to go down, though cost is the main reason for the one I chose (and they'll both eat it!). Though any price difference in food is still going to be less than the cost of daily Lantus! I'll see what she does with a drop a couple times a day, though it's sounding like it might be the case that I need to work on both fronts in the short-term.

If they'll both eat it...9-lives most pate flavors are between 4-6% and relative easy on the wallet. Autumn's of course hates 9-lives but the tiny amount of rice in the Friskies causes her to hang onto those last few drops of insulin.

Its all such a balancing act.
