Recap

6/29 AMPS=121; +2=79; +3=70; +6=76
6/29 PMPS=112; +2=113; +6=151; +7=137

6/30 AMPS=137; +2=194; +7=124
6/30 PMPS=112; +2=81; +4=67; +5=77

Since we started on this dose, it seems clear even to me that prednisolone is holding her back.
Lucy has bee on 5mg of prednisolone every other day for years and I noticed the below trend:

PM cycle with prednisolone: blue ~ yellow
Next AM cycle : flat mid blue
Next PM cycle (no pred) : green ~ lower blue
Next AM cycle : more green
Back to PM cycle with prednisolone

I may need more data to confirm this trend, but it seems she goes higher in the PM cycle with the prednisolone as well as the one after.
Could it be a coincidence?

I am thinking about giving her 2.5mg (half a tablet) every day to even things out, and I'll ask the vet about it.
But I'm not sure this change will have any negative effect since she's been on 5mg every other day for years.
I would think 5mg every other day and 2.5mg every day are the same, but I don't know if the concentration matters.....

I would really appreciate your advice/opinion/suggestion on this.

Lucy is doing fine. Her appetite this morning is a little bit off, but she still ate her 1st and 2nd breakfast - just not as excitedly, kind of leave it or take it attitude :roll:

I don't have any advice about the pred, but steroids do make BGs go up. I'm glad she ate, even if she wasn't overly excited about it.

Please talk to your vet about changing the dose of pred. Not only do steriods effect BG numbers, they need to be gradually tapered especially since Lucy has been on pred for some time. It's not a med that can be stopped cold turkey. (I know you're not saying this is what you're going to do.) IMHO, I think you should discuss this with your vet.

I was able to feed her the 3rd breakfast. She doesn't seem to be feeling too good today, but at least she ate.

I agree with Sienne. I would definitely coordinate any changes with my vet.

Mariko...I know Lucy has lots going on that she gets meds/supplements for. What is the pred for exactly? If she's been on it a while, I wonder if there is something new that has been developed that might work for whatever she takes it for.

Thank you for checking on Lucy.
Her PMPS is better. I think this morning cycle was affected by yesterday night's prednisolone if I'm right.
I hope she'll have a better cycle tonight.
But it's been very hot today, and Lucy doesn't like hot.... :sad:

Prednisolone was originally prescribed for her asthma/allergy.
She never had any itchy skin but was coughing.
She also used to do very hard reverse sneezing all the time at the time which scared me a lot, but this also considerably reduced since prednisolone.
The vet thought asthma because her lungs were wheezy too.
At that time she was vomiting more often and had intestinal problem.
She was not absorbing the nutrients from food, and was losing weight.
All this happened around the same time, and the vet put her on prednisolone.
She improved a lot, but we also changed her food and started her on ursodiol at the same time, so I don't know how much of the improvements was due to prednisolone.
I wasn't really comfortable about giving her steroid, so every so often for the next 3 years since the Rx, I asked the vet if Lucy would still need it, and every time vet said yes, for the rest of her life probably since she's doing well on it, and her dose is so small it would not do much harm.
She's been on it for over 7 years now, and the dose never changed.
I now really regret that I didn't pursue alternatives sooner. :cry: :cry:
I sent an e-mail to the clinic, but the vet who knows Lucy the best is off today.
I should hear from her tomorrow.

I'm still waiting for the vet to reply to me, maybe tomorrow since she's off today.
I hope she'll have some good suggestion, but I'm not very hopeful.
I feel like I should have never put her on it....

I will let you all know what the vet thinks once I hear from her.....

Hi Mariko, Glad Lucy came down for you. It will be interesting to see what the vets says about the pred. I had a cat who was on it for years, for IBD. It was the only med offered to me, and I knew no better. He (Rocko) lived many years in comfort. We do the best we can for our furbabies with the information we have. You are a wonderful momma bean to beautiful Lucy :-D

And of course it kind of makes sense as this is a non-pred cycle.
I feel really down about it....
I know from this forum that steroids aren't good for FD, but I didn't think it would make such a big difference...
 
Pretty greens tonight for Lucy. I hope you find an alternate answer for the pred. But she does recover quickly.

You asked about tricks for knots - sorry, none. Just have to comb frequently to keep on top of things and I haven't been, hence the knots. :oops: I find a comb works best for Neko's fur.
