She is still on antibiotics for her kidney infection.
All wet food, high protein; Merrick Limited Ingredient Diet (she has allergies)
(she had been on dry hydrolized protein/Royal Canin)

After the big swings in her numbers, (waaaay too low, then a big spike (Somogyi effect probably) I reduced her insulin. Even after yesterday morning, when I gave her 0.25, it still swung down into the 50's. Decided to not dose yesterday evening, and this morning her BG was 225. On some recommendations, decided to not give her insulin this morning as well, to see what would happen. I've been tracking, and as you can see from the spreadsheet, she is pretty even, in the low 200's. (using an AlphaTrak still - we have the strips and don't want to spend on another reader yet.)

225 6:35 a.m.
.........7:30 a.m. fed breakfast - no dose
214 8:31 a.m.
218 10:45 a.m.
222 12:17 a.m.

She is relaxed, lying in the sun in the window, but still a tad too high.
She totally fought me yesterday when I gave her her medication - I was secretly pleased to see her so full of fight (compared to just a couple of days prior!)
Since she has a bad kidney infection, I don't want to task her kidneys with sugar, however I also don't want to cause her to crash. Should I just wait out today? I understand that her "depot" is effecting any numbers, so should I try a 0.1 dose tonight? (As much as I am able!) Nighttime is a little scary, considering how low her numbers have gone this week. Thank you!!!
 
Luna was hungry - as she lost weight, and this past week I force/assisted fed her most days, and it didn't feel enough, I fed her. It is about 4 hours before she SHOULD be fed, however as I did not give her insulin today, because of her numbers issues, I felt it prudent to feed her. I measured her numbers right after, and they were down again, the lowest all day at 210. I will measure again in an hour.

She is acting normally, sitting in my lap now purring (I am not getting much done this week, besides taking care of MissLunaMae, and her rascally sister Winky, who is sitting over on the window seat trying to clean herself through her "cone of shame" (she was just diagnosed with a Mast Cell tumor. Le Sigh.)

If anyone could give me a shout out on how will I "know" that I should give Luna her insulin, with her ease with going into a hypoglycemic state, it would be appreciated! I know that the depot can effect cats for days. How will I know that it is time/or not? If she stays in the low 200's, she will still need a touch of insulin, won't she? I'm worried about her kidneys.

Since she didn't have any insulin last night or this morning, and her numbers were in an upward trend, and she wanted to eat again, I gave Luna her insulin dose at 4:40 this afternoon, and cut it to 0.1 (I hope).
 
PMPS was 240
+2 is 106
dose was 0.1 (as close as I could make it.) The plunger edge was all the way up the the last line. Didn't feel at all like there was any "give" when I pushed, but as her numbers show, she did get some Lantus. I will test again at 8:30 - that will be at +4 hours - she has reached her nadir at +4/+5 hours.
 
At PMPS +4 Luna's BG is at 92. That is good news. I still don't understand why her initial "drop" is so fast, if she is getting the correct amount. Also, does anyone know if it is common to only give 0.1 insulin as a dose?
 
I have seen some kitties literally need no more than a drop of insulin. ECID. Some cats also onset a little earlier, that could be why the initial drop at +2. Looks like a nice surf going on now.:D
