followed by previous posts, i did more BGs.
as i mentioned before, i doubted there is something wrong with the new insulin pen and yet i am not sure.'

so on 28th, i use the previous insulin pen (still not yet expired, i just usually use a new one after a month).
amps 392 very high. then for am/pms shot i use previous insulin pen
pmps alreay drops back to 304

29th amps 266, pmps 239, +6 261
which is so much better. i talked to the vet and she said, i can use the new insulin pen and do a full day test, so that we can see whether it's a rebound or not. because on 26th when i first use this insulin pen, the figures are very strange:
amps 304 (previous insulin pen, the one i use on 29th), +6 173 (that is very low), pmps 360, +5 342

so 30th, i did what the vet suggest, to use the new one. and the figures turn up high again
amps (280) -- that is before the shot, +3 336, +6 (290) + 8 (250) pmps (336).

may i ask what should i do?
whould i get a new insulin pen?

the other thing is, i have been thinking of trying a different type. as she has been on lantus for more than 6 months and still very unstable. though the problem is that she has pancreatitis. now trying supplements. and since two weeks ago, we have the supplements e.g. coq10, sam-e, vit e, etc, her BG drops from over 400 to the 200-290 range. until this new insulin pen produced such strange figures...

pls advise. i am confused...

hi Anson

Good work on collecting more data!

I see you have had doubts on the pen for a while now, mite be worth it to replace it.
If you go ahead with that, maybe start on a day you will be around so you can monitor the numbers.

Have you looked into what other insulin's are available to you where you are located? What are your options?

i did do a rough research on the "slow-working" insulin like lantau...
however, usually, when mentioned to vet, they are unwilling...

i will talk to the vet again...

do u think it's good to try another type?

also, i would like to ask you folks, more experienced caregivers, if siujim is on lantau since last mind dec (2009), is it very hard to get her into remission? i read some info that if a cat is on insulin for more than 6 months, it's hard for the pancreas to recover. is that true?
if i can get her BG around 170-250, though not normal, is it at least regulated?

thanks.

I would also vote for a new insulin pen. In my mind, if you've been wondering about it for this long, it's worth replacing for peace of mind if for no other reason.

As to other insulins...I got nothing on that one. I'll leave that to those with more experience in long-term insulin use.
