6/27 Update on Phoebe Squeak's infection

Phoebe Squeak still has an infection in her nail bed after courses of Clavamox and Veraflox so she saw a dermatologist yesterday and now she's on Zithromax. The doctor said diabetics have a hard time fighting off infections so he also put her on a low dose of Interferon to help her immune system. He noticed a yeast infection in her ear, so now she has ear drops too, and a cream I'm suppose to rub right on the infected toe. He was very clear that I cannot just apply it, I must rub it in. I can barely look at the toe without her getting upset, so wish me luck.

Poor Phoebe Squeak. I hope this round of meds clears everything up. I hope she'll get used to you touching her toe. I want to warn you that most ear medicines for cats have a steroid in them so it may make her BG go up. Thank you very much for the warning, Carla! Her Zithromax is cherry banana flavored and her BG started rising after her 1st dose so I checked the fine print and it has sucrose in it, so I'll probably have to raise her insulin dose while she's on it. I don't have the ear drops yet, but I'll pay close attention when I get them today -- thanks to you. Thanks for the prayers & good wishes.

Oh poor Phoebe Squeak! Sending vines that the new round of antibiotics works like a charm, and she allows the rubbing. Sending hugs for you also. I know how hard it is when dealing with infections, let alone for our extra sweet kitties.

I had a cat with a nail bed infection that kept recurring and eventually we put him on fluconazole, which gets in the bloodstream and treats it from the inside out. I can’t remember how many times we had to repeat it or how long he was on it but it did eventually go away. You might ask your vet about it

Poor Phoebe! Toe bed and ear . I hope the rubbing of the toe goes ok. That’s a tough one!! Once the infection is cleared up in the ear the Zymox Otic Enzymatic Solution is great to use to prevent future issues. I was told it creates an environment that is not hospitable to infections. Prior to the Zymox, Tomlin had one infection last year and it did require an ear medication with steroid to clear it up. The vet suggested I use the Zymox to help avoid needing it again in the future.
