6/25 Spot bg 191! PMBG 166

Had to rent a condo this morning, I need a little moral support. Spot is having teeth issues, I believe....gums around two of his upper teeth are very red and swollen and one is just covered with tartar. Last night I was looking through his mouth and his gum started to bleed. Going to call vet, hopefully I can get him in tomorrow and see when I can schedule a dental.

I'm thinking of helping him out here and giving him a drop of insulin. Is anyone around that can look at his ss and give me any advise?

how bout antibiotics, deb? is spot on any right now? wondering if they'll bring the numbers down. i know you've been concerned about rising numbers lately but don't remember if you got antibiotics.
i've seen results from ABs pretty quickly in kitties so i'd hate to say use insulin if numbers will go down with ABs. not at all being a vet professional my instinct would be to try a drop of insulin and see if that's all he needs (IF the vet isn't going to put him on antibiotics preparatory to the dental). but i defer to the pros here on that...

If he keeps rising you may need to give him some insulin, but please wait for more expert advise than myself.
I just hope his mouf and teef feel all better soon. Poor baby cat_pet_icon

Well, I have to leave for work now or I'll be late...going to wait until tonight to make the decision as to whether to give or not to give. Please send some good teefie vines to my boy! Thanks !

personally, I would give a drop of insulin to help out. when ya get AB (which I believe you did give a few weeks ago??) then it did not help and you want to get a handle on this ASAP. I know finances are tight right now, but maybe vet will make payment plan so you can get this knocked out ASAP. will not get better , only worse,

Thanks guys. I have apt. at 9 am for vet, so one step at a time. Got lucky....Home warrenty covered $500 of the $849 plumbing bill, so I do have some extra money in savings to use towards another dental. Would be nice if they wouldn't charge until February when his health plan will cover, but I don't think I'll get that lucky, lol.

Been thinking it over and have decided that I will give a drop of insulin tonight, even if it comes down a bit. I am not comfortable with numbers over 150 and he's been close to that twice and over once. I believe he needs the help and he will get it!

Hi Deb: I don't think I would shoot yet. See what he does. It could be teeth or an infection and his body is compensating. See what the numbers are tonight. If you need to shoot, see what some of the others say. K? Good luck. Just another challenge in the sugar dance.

He was 135 three hours ago, before his snack. do I or don't I give a drop of insulin...gotta give this some more thought...any one?
 
I am completely on the fence which helps you not in the least. I'm leaning toward supporting Spot's pancreas because even if you get ABs tomorrow, it's going to take a couple of days for them to kick in. I also don't want to say "go for it" and then you're up all night steering low numbers.
 
tough one. :sad: I would probably help him out, but then again I'm not known for my patience in waiting for numbers to come down on their own.
 
Hi Deb and Spot!!! I really can't give you any advice but if it were me I would probably wait until after the vet appt to shoot and see what they say. Whatever you do I am sure you know him best!! Sorry that you guys had to rent a condo for the day, I know you must be worried. Sending positive thoughts your way and hope your vet visit goes well! Miss you guys!!!!
 
Oh Spot! Feel better soon - and remember - you're only renting this condo (and it's a short term lease!)...

Spot has been on AB's since last Saturday.. They seemed to be helping but then all of a sudden...pht..going to give a drop This number is just to high...just a drop, can't hurt him.

Ended up giving him one drop tonight. Will continue to monitor. Thanks everyone..time for bed
