Good morning,

This morning Leo made it clear by trying to take a chunk out of my arm that he's not pleased with getting his ears poked. My only saving grace is he's as slow as a sloth when he goes in for a bite so I have time to move away. But still, he's a big kitty with a big mouth and big teeth! Yikes!

On the bright side, he's obviously feeling much better, LOL!

Have you tried freeze dried chicken? I always had it in hand for treats. I’m glad he’s slow, lol.

I have to stop typing on my iPhone or get a bigger one.

Got "trace ketones" for the test done today. I made an appointment at the Vet for Leo for tomorrow morning. They're going to retest the ketones and do a full bloodwork including thyroid, Vit B and pancreatitis.

Don't stall for too long since he was throwing trace amounts of ketones today.
Have you been able to get another ketone test?

When a cat is throwing ketones you want to shoot to keep the insulin supply sufficient, add water to their food, and make sure they eat as much as they do normally. In other words, when throwing ketones one wants to shoot even if it means feeding high carb food in order to keep kitty from dropping too low. It's kind of a balancing act. Shoot as soon as you're feeling comfortable with giving insulin.

The basic recipe for developing DKA = an insufficient supply of insulin + inappetance + infection OR other systemic stresses.

No I haven't been able to get another Ketone test but I've been adding water to his food since this morning and he's still eating normally. So I'll give some LC and test after an hour. We have vet apt tomorrow morning, thank goodness.

Thank you!

You're welcome.

Alex was a ketone prone cat. When ever she was throwing ketones I tried to make a point of testing her for ketones twice a day because ketones can get worse or get better (when low) within a matter of hours.

I know, this is pretty scary, I hope we've caught it in time. I can usually test him at least once a day since I put the litter box in the dining room.

We ended up giving him a 2u shot at +1.5. Thanks again for your help. :bighug:
