I may be able to do another curve on Derek in the next day or 2 and have some questions:

Is it appropriate to do a curve at this time? I have reduced his dosage from 1 unit to ¾ unit recently (see SS).

Should I give food or snacks during the curve- maybe something like a piece of canned chicken (his favorite)?..

If so- how often (I was thinking maybe with ever testing) and how much?

During the last curve (see SS), I didn’t feed him at all during the curve (only before the start) - per the vet. So- he didn’t eat for 12 hours- this doesn’t sound like a good thing to do- his numbers dropped quite a bit at the end of that curve… any thoughts?

Also- to my untrained eyes- Derek’s nadirs seem to occur at the very end of (or even after in one case) the 12 hour cycle- am I seeing this correctly? Any implications?

Thanks!

At this point, I'd be reticent to draw any conclusions about where Derek's nadir falls. Nadirs can move around so there's no way to know for sure if what you saw on 6/5 or 6/5 is typical. If you're able to get a few more spot checks it may allow you to get a clearer sense of what Derek's cycles look like. I do think what you saw on 6/5 was a bounce breaking and I wouldn't base a decision on the timing of a nadir on that cycle.

As for feeding, I think it's fine to feed during a curve. Just handle a cycle where you're getting a curve just like any other cycle. Generally, we suggest not feeding after nadir since there's less insulin available to offset the effect of food. Conservatively and especially if you don't know when the nadir falls, I'd stop feeding/giving snacks after +6.

What was your rationale for reducing Derek's dose? If you're following SLGS, his numbers would need to drop below 90. Maybe I missed it but I didn't see any numbers below 92.
