Things around here were pretty calm today, even the weather was better, no T-storms and a bit cooler - did the curve yesterday. Zeus was in the yellow earlier after being mostly in the pink yesterday. I haven't seen him in the red before - I don't like red on him  I just increased his dosage today to 1.75 (up .25 from yesterday), could that have caused his BG to jump up over 400? Body reacting to increase? He's acting normally, but I think he's hungry - he's been staring at me for more than half an hour.

Oh, but I have been worried about my civie cat who didn't want to eat, and hasn't been acting herself. The vet said (yesterday) she has a heart murmur. Could Zeus be picking up on that, causing the increase to red?

Trying to not to freak out about either cat nailbite_smile

ETA: tested again before feeding at PMPS, down to 380.

I think the 407 that you got is pretty close to the 380 you got a bit later, within the "acceptable variance" which I believe is 20%? I might be off on that, though. Hopefully someone will let us know if that's the case. It's hard on us, I think (psychologically) when we see those higher numbers. I saw you got a +3 after Zeus's PM shot, do you think you can get a +5 or +6 to help you see what's going on as he approaches nadir?

It could very well be that Zeus is a bit stressed about his companion. I think our kitties pick up on all kinds of things and react to them...I was so stressed out when Leo was diagnosed and first started treatment that he actually missed his litterbox-I'm sure it was stress-related, as he'd never done that before, even when ill.

I hope that things even out for you and Zeus...hopefully bumping this thread up will get some more experienced eyes on your question.

Have you seen posts about "New Dose Wonkiness"?

It is what happens when you make a dose change, and the numbers get funky for a while. You may need to give it 3 days to settle before you assume its not a good dose by checking mid-cycle..

And yes - always consider your comparisons as being in a range of + or - 20%

500 is really anywhere from 400 - 600
400 is really anywhere from 320 - 480
300 is really anywhere from 240 - 360
200 is really anywhere from 160 - 240

When the range between one test overlaps the range of another, you may conclude they are essentially the same.
When the range of one test does not overlap the range of another, you may conclude they are different.

If you take 2 tests, one after the other, you can be more confident you are near the true value (I've got math I can share, or you can trust me on that!)

Edited to fix typos, which drive me nuts ... or nuttier than I already am!!!

Re: 6/24 Zeus +11.5/407 Ugh. Haven't been in the red before

Thanks Kate and BJM  Zeus' numbers are better today (2nd day of the dose increase), PM +3 was 195. I just fed him his 4th meal of the day, will try to test again in a couple of hours. I did think about the meter variance after I posted. But I guess I hadn't read about the New Dose Wonkiness before. Or maybe I did and just didn't absorb it - there is so much to read and absorb here.

My civie Smokey ate more today - She ate a whole tray of the FF appetizers, and some Friskies and tuna. I'm not sure she ate enough though.

On a similar note, I just ordered a baby scale so that I can keep track of both cats and their weight. Zeus is filling out a bit, but I don't want him to gain too much. Smokey lost a little bit of weight (less than a pound) since our last vet visit, but not too much... need to make sure she doesn't continue to lose.

Thanks again,

Kathie
