Hi All,

I noticed some replies on my last thread regarding recent health developments, so I wanted to give you a quick update before I go take a much needed nap. I'm so grateful for your concern and any information you can share that might be helpful in deciding what next steps to take. I wonder if I should make a separate thread for this on the main page or in another location, because this thread should really be focused on dosing and related questions, don't you think?

As a follow up to the original biopsy last week, yesterday they did some x rays and an ultrasound as well as checking for bladder infections. It sounds like once they got going they wanted to cover as many areas as possible, without checking with me first, but, oh well.

I don't have a definite answer yet because one or two specialists still have to look at the test results to say for sure, but if I understood right from what the Vet was telling me, it looks as if the SCC hasn't spread to other organs. I will wait before breathing a sigh of relief.

There is only one clinic in Bologna that provides radiation therapy for animals as far as I am aware. It is called Anicura. Here is the link:

When I talked to the Vet about it, she said the head of oncology originally worked at Anicura. But what they don't have at the University is the radiation equipment as far as I know.

I'm super hesitant to subject Jessi to radiation or chemo treatments.

In a way surgery seems better. But, obviously, they all have their risks and potential negative effects.

I'm super tired right now, and have lots to do today, so unless something unexpected comes up I'm signing off until this evening.

Before replying to this update, can I get some opinions on where would be the best place to start a new thread on just this topic? Or should I leave it as is? If something comes up and I need urgent help, then what do I do, delete this text and replace it with my current question?

You can start a separate thread on the Health forum. Leave this one be for the BG updates. :)

In an earlier post of another member, Wendy had suggested to you "@Stefania S You should start a new thread about the skin anomaly, as that may be unique to Jessi.
No limits to thread posting on the Feline Health forum. The only suggestion we have is that you don't let one thread get too long. So go ahead and start a new one with a title that might attract people who know about skin issues."
 
If the SCC is operable then I would go with that. As long as they can get clean margins she should be okay. Marcus had to have part of his ears removed due to SCC there, and it was successful (no return to the ears.) He also had surgery to a spot on his nose, but I wasn’t going to allow his nose to be gradually removed over and over again via surgery. So we went with the radiation due to the location of this cancer. If it had been on his body, I am sure I would have opted for surgery. My concern in your case is how long they’ve waited. However, SCC is very slow growing and rarely metastasizes to other organs, although it is possible.
 
Also the particular type of radiation he had is not like any other radiation. It is at a very controlled depth and does not affect the body systemically or affect other organs. It’s very targeted. He had zero side effects from it - except that after about 10 days the skin of his nasal planum started to crust up and then scabbed up and then when that came off he had beautiful healthy pink skin there.
