Good morning folks
hope everyone is having a better mornin than we are!
could be a couple of things, I started Dasoquin on Monday so he might be reacting
to that, or I missed(dont thinkI did though.
I think I have to watch this week and see what happens on the Dasoquin
I think he really needs it for his back, but is it worth is cause of the numbers??

Anyway hope all is well today and I will talk to you all later

Denise and Shakes

Sorry for the yucky number.

At least you aren't looking 500 in the eye-- I guess thst makes Kitty's number double yucky!!

I have heard that Dasoquin can impact some kitty's numbers. I would just record it on your ss and see if it becomes a pattern. You could post on Health to see what other medications could be prescribed.....

Hope for better numbers later for you and Shakes.

Cosequin (same ingredients as Dasoquin) affected Henry's numbers within 2 days after starting so stopped it.
I was hoping he could use it too; to help pain and his walking.
I am considering and probably will take him to a vet accupuncturist when I pick up his x-rays from my vet. My vet seems to think this will help him.

Thanks everyone, I think I am going to stop it for now,
just until I can get him down, and to hopefully stay down
Its a catch 22, cause when his numbers go that high he feels terrible
but I know his back hurts too, so which is worse?

Interesting. I used to give Dasuquin to Shaikha for arthritis, but since she takes steroids now regularly we haven't needed to use it -- of course, the steroids then caused her diabetes! I wonder why it would have this reaction? I can attest to d-mannose not being good for sugarcats -- I was giving that to Shaikha to try to prevent UTIs, but is a sugar derivative and it drove her BG up so we had to stop it as well. I can understand sugar derivatives causing higher BG but would never have expected that from Dasuquin. Weird.

Glad you posted this though because I've still got some Dasuquin around here just in case the steroids aren't enough to control her arthritis one day. Guess I won't be trying that!

I think it is because they contain glucosamine or compound of. In humans, glucosamine can drive up blood sugar.
Henry rose 200 points at AMPS within 2 days of trying the Cosequin. Went back down within a day of stopping.

Wow! Interesting. I'd be scared to give her glucosamine anyway now that she's got IBD. She seems to be sensitive to fish. Now whether shellfish acts the same as fish cat food I don't know. But if it raises sugar, even more reason not to give it to her. Really interesting it has that reaction though. I'll have to do some research on it because I'm curious what the mechanism might be.
