Re: 6/22 Leo AMPS 131

Enjoy your btb Tracy! At least Leo waited for the alarm. Tarragon sat in the entry way today where there is a really good echo and meowed and meowed 1/2 hour before the alarm this morning.

Leo is looking so good. I hope you are enjoying your snuggle time!

Re: 6/22 Leo AMPS 131, +4 65

Hahaha yes amazing how vocal one little being can be! He's very talkative to begin with, and sometimes i wonder will he ever meow himself hoarse? The answer is NO!

So after my twitching question yesterday and doing some hard thinking about it, i decided to try a change in food. The other day i discovered that Leo likes Wellness Beef & Chicken, so yesterday he ate only Wellness (he also likes the Turkey & Salmon) and guess what?!?! Much less twitching! Not completely gone, but much less noticeable. Wellness was on the menu for breffis and when we went btb this morning he snuggled up against me under the blankets (we were spooning) and i didn't feel one single twitch. I wonder what Wellness has that FF doesn't? Is it like Jill said and had something to do with Potassium?

So Leo's DGp has requested that we come over a day early, so we are headed to the Grandparents acreage this afternoon. I'm sure there will be some heavy duty mousing to be had this afternoon. It's finally nice out 23 degrees (72 F i think?) so i can finally work on my tan.....no rain in the forecast today!

Hey there Tracy.....your kitty bellows and mine hollers...go figure.

Leo started off the day very well.

Re: 6/22 Leo AMPS 131, +4 65

Leo is doing so well!!! I know you have to be thrilled!! Champ really likes the Wellness Beef & Chicken too!! I'm working on getting Champ switched entirely over to Wellness again and getting rid of the FF altogether except for some of the seafood ones for treats to see if that will make a difference in his symptoms, but I don't know. I know you have Leo on methyl B12 and isn't hasn't helped him, but I sure hope it helps Champ because his mobility is severely limited now and it's happened so fast. Good luck with Leo! I know those numbers have to be helping him out a lot.

Re: 6/22 Leo PMPS 103 & convo w/ Leo's vet re:twitching

Yes i am sooooo happy with Leo's progress, he's had some amazing numbers lately, i couldn't ask for anything better. It took awhile for us to get here, but here we are and i finally got rid of the darned trampoline he so loved to bounce on!

Leo is out in his favorite mousing spot, i had to go get him to come in for his shot and supper, he couldn't be bothered with any of it. He's mouse crazy!!

So yesterday i emailed Leo's vet his latest BG numbers and asked him about the twitching problem he's been having. Dr. John emailed me back; "As for the twitching, i would also think that it may be a subclinical sign of mild hypoglycemia. This should resolve as the level of inslulin dose decreases. Low levels of potassium would be another possibility but without a blood chemistry panel, i would be reluctant to make any recommendations for change or supplementation since potassium should run in a fairly narrow range - too much or too little can be harmful. Keep track of the BG and the twitching to see if it continues. If necessary, we may need to run a chem panel". I asked him about potassium in my email i sent him.

Hmmmm.........maybe i'm running Leo too low. I plan on keeping track of when he twitches the hardest and see if its attributed to him being too low.

Re: 6/22 Leo PMPS 103 & convo w/ Leo's vet re:twitching

Hmmmm. Unfortunately, when Champ's numbers are low, his twitching decreases.

Re: 6/22 Leo PMPS 103 & convo w/ Leo's vet re:twitching

HI! I dont know much about potassium levels, but it looks like you are doing a great job with Leo.
Know Thy Cat, as no one knows him better than you..If you see less twitching with different food, I do believe it..Much in life is trial & error, as it is here..
As Leo gets more regulated, you will see his old behaviors like before he he was ill, return!
Moonie hid for months when we first came.. she was not the same cat, but slowly she got so much better, she got her groove back! ;-)
You are pleased with Leo's progress, so soon you will be really happy as he gets better & Better!
BTW-I use the Accu check aviva and get 400 strips for about $95 on amazon.com--Hope they ship to where you are--Have a good night! ou are doing great!

Re: 6/22 Leo PMPS 103 & convo w/ Leo's vet re:twitching

I don't know anything about the twitching, but Leo's numbers look great!

Re: 6/22 Leo PMPS 103 & convo w/ Leo's vet re:twitching

Hey Tracy, Maybe it's fresh MOUSE!! Does wonders for twitching?? Anyway, whatever it is, it's good. Have a great evening and I hope you can work on your tan before the weather socks in again!

Re: 6/22 Leo PMPS 103 & convo w/ Leo's vet re:twitching

Can you get hold of any of Leo's chem panels -- particularly ones before he was diagnosed and however many there are recently? I'd be very curious what his BG numbers were pre-diagnosis. That will give you some idea whether Leo's numbers are too low. I tend to doubt that his numbers are too low but you never know.

Re: 6/22 Leo PMPS 103 & convo w/ Leo's vet re:twitching

Yes Leo has had a few different chem panels run from this vet. The last one was maybe 2 years ago, for a UTI that he had. Maybe i'll stop by tomorrow on my way home and get a copy of them.

Re: 6/22 Leo PMPS 103, +3 54 & convo w/ Leo's vet re:twitchi

54?!?!?! Me thinks someone will earn another dose reduction tonight. Haven't been able to monitor his twitching, he's been out mousing since his supper/shot and i had to drag him in for a test.
