Re: 6/22 Heart AMPS 392

Hi Ronie,

Heart is doing okay. He's perked up a tiny bit and came to visit me on the bed for the first time in a looong time. Even put up with a bit of brushing, but then when I tried to push him onto his side to brush his bellow, he meowed at me as if in pain. Growled at me too shot time, although he was busy stuffing his face in his food bowl. Funny, he just sits there when I do the BG testing, but for the insulin shot I get growling!

Where are you shooting? There are a couple of possibilities. You might be poking into muscle or hitting bone. It's also possible that Heart is sensitive to Lantus -- in humans in larger doses it reportedly stings. Or, Heart may be annoyed that you're interrupting a meal!

Re: 6/22 Heart AMPS 392

Thats a good sign when they start coming to you for visits.
I try to brush my kitties bellies too, and I get the claw - geesh! Don't touch me there, I guess, lol!

Good that he sits well for testing, not sure about the growling, are u having any doubts about how you're injecting?
That happen to me a few times with Luna, he would move and hiss at me, to the point where he made me too scared to inject, and DBF had to do it for me.
So I was nervous about whether I was aiming at the right spot. But he got better and stopped his hissing eventually.

Are you doing the scruff? Making a little tent with the skin, aiming into the middle of the tent, slightly downwards with syringe?

Re: 6/22 Heart AMPS 392

I am definitely injecting into his skin. Pinching out an inch. As soon as I start pinching though to prepare for a shot, he knows and is starting to growl at me. Before the needle touches. He just doesn't like it! I try to go for his sides for better circulation, but the last two shots I did at the scruff in case his sides need time to heal and are hurting him from previous shots. I always try to inject somewhere else though. He's getting wet food with the injections though - a treat he never used to get before - so he should have some positive association with it! I was the meanie that had switched him to dry food after getting him from my mother-in-law a year ago. Now with needles he gets his beloved wet food!

Re: 6/22 Heart AMPS 392

Hi Sophia,

Hope things are going well for with Heart on Lantus. It's a good insulin for cats and lots have gone into remission. Wish you luck with it as well.

In the begining I tried shooting Sara while she was eating and it did'nt work out. She did'nt growl but she would just turn and make it hard for me to shoot. I guess she did'nt like me interrupting her meal. So now I do it anywhere else, but while shes eating. Than I give her something to eat.

You'll find things that work for you and Heart. He must be a sweetheart.

Glad your here at LL.

Today's shot he didn't get with food (I fed him two hours ago - might have influenced the PMPS?)

Tonight he actually reclaimed his spot on the bed. He used to always lie on our bed before he got sick and started lying under the bed, table, dresser etc. I did his BG lying on the bed instead of moving him, and then I gave him his shot on the bed (just put a Temptations treat in front of him to distract him). He didn't even flinch this time. Still lying there watching me type right now.

I'm not too fussy about being back in the red though :(
