Nothing weird that I saw today, and his leg is a little better. Yesterday I remember him getting his claw caught in the afghan when he got down and I think he wrenched his LF shoulder on his already sore leg. What can FD CRF arthritic kitties have for pain?

Looks like the thin 1U scruff shot is catching up to us now! I'm going to stay with the Fat 1 for a few cycles and see how it goes. But now I know at this amount (f1U) (Not quite a FAT 1u) I can still shoot a falling number (not a bungee number of course).

Yesterday

Well my scruff shot was a really bad idea, and/or his hurting leg is causing him stress too. Either way we are back in the yellow this morning.

Last night:
Due to falling numbers I shot a thin 1u in the scruff. Usually shoot in the side.

He slept really heavy last night, even sleeping through the +5.5 test. He was hungry this AM, gave him a TBS of wellness just after the +9.5.

He's still limping on LF but getting around a teeny bit better. Nothing else weird after that "almost fainting" incident yesterday, but I'm still really shook up.

Hey Myla -

I was just reading your post from yesterday. My kitties have had strange episodes over the years - not what you described, but things I would describe as tremors or even some sort of seizure. Seizures do not have to be full on convulsive - from some of the sites I've read:

The severity of the seizure can vary between a far-away look or twitching in one part of the face to your cat falling on his side, barking, gnashing his teeth, urinating, defecating and paddling his limbs.

I would swear that my civvie cat, Blue, has had seizures before - just from strange things he's done - like waking up running and running into a wall - weird things like that (of course, I've also read that, anecdotally, white cats may be more prone to neurological issues and Blue's all white). But nothing much has ever come of it. And soon after Kasha was diagnosed with FD, she had 2 incidents of weird head tremors while she was lying down and I was feeding her. I flipped out at first and called a vet tech and she said that as long as Kasha wasn't bothered by it (Kasha never stopped eating while it went on), just to keep an eye on her. And now, I'm half-convinced that she was just in a strange position, lying in her bed and moving her head in a strange way to eat. We don't eat there anymore and so far it hasn't happened again. I personally get tremors in my jaw and neck when I'm at the dentist and I'm in a strange position for too long - so who knows?

Anyway - I think you should just keep an eye on Purrcie (which I know you will) and see if it happens again. I doubt it was related to the scruff shot, but stranger things have happened. It doesn't sound like it distressed him any, which is a good sign.

Hey Krys,
Thank you for the comments. I'm inexperienced with any kinds of feline seizures, but maybe I just witnessed one and don't realize it. I'm also wondering if he didn't have some kind of mild stroke or something with the extra limping going on with his LF leg. I've had his legs x-rayed and he does have arthritis in both elbows. He also has a heart murmur so stroke is a real possibility with this poor little guy.

Hi Myla,
I just read your profile and realized that Purrcie is a senior cat like my Blackie. I also had another CRF cat several years ago, so that has helped me with Blackie. Blackie isn't on fluids yet and has been holding his own with the CRF. We switched to Lantus in March, so Blackie is still getting used to it. Do you have Purrcie on a phosphorus binder? I'm just wondering if a higher phosphorus level is causing his nausea. FYI - Blackie also has arthritis in his elbows and in his back, but with supplements & meds he gets around pretty good.

It's great that you can be home with your kitties and that you've learned to home test. I'll look forward to hearing more about Purrcie in the days to come.

PMPS 173. Purr still seems a bit slow and tired today. LF leg is still bothering him quite a bit. I need to find out about what arthritis meds I can get for him from the vet.

Hello Myla and Purrcie. I am sorry to hear that Mr Purr is not feeling up to par today. I hope that the leg is just arthritis and he will feel better tomorrow. I don't have any experience with arthritis in my kitties (yet  ) but I have read in others condo's about bupe for pain. I know Carolyn was giving it to Latte for a little while.

Hey Paige!

I am sure the air conditioning going in the house is stiffening him up too. Maybe I need to put a heating pad on my bed for him.

I've been reading in the health section about different meds available so I need to talk to the vet and see what she can do for him.

Hope you have a good rest of the night.

Hi Myla, I can't be of any help with your questions about arthritis or seizures, but Stu and I just wanted to say that we hope Purrcie is feeling lots better tomorrow.

Hi Sienne,

I read that Cosequin raises blood pressure in kitties so it is not suggested for kitties with CRF. I used to use it too for Purrcie but that scared me as he already has a bit of high blood pressure.

On a good note, he is feeling much better today. YAY! I'll be over to check out your condo in a little while. Hope you and Gabby are having a great day!
