Well, here it is at +11 and she is 85. This at 6pm. She ate an entire can of ProPlan and a tsp more left over by one of the others. Very good appetite tonight! I am going to retest her at 7pm just before her shot. I will admit that I am a bit nervous to shoot at this level, but onward and upward I must go! ;-) Will retest her a few more times tonight before bed just to be on the safe side. Can I safely let her eat as much as she wants just before bed so I feel slightly more comfortable not being able to test her through the night?
Thanks!

Good Morning folks,

Beautiful day out today here...hope it's the same wherever you all are and that your week is off to a good start.

Meadow's AMPS this morning was 298. Going to go with a smidge over 1u in the hopes that will bring her levels a little lower. Will hold that for a few days and see where we are. What do you think?

Re: 6/21 Meadow's AMPS 298

Pretty Meadow....can you bring those yellows down to the pretty blues?
maybe you could put a question in your heading so someone could come along and weigh in on the "smidge"...

Re: 6/21 Meadow's AMPS 298 +4 165 on a smidge more than 1u ??

Well, gave her a smidge over 1u this morning. Is that considered a FAT unit? Hard to tell a smidgeon from a 1/4 on these darn syringes. But here we are at +4 and a BG of 165. Not bad, right? Of course she expected a treat after her test, so I gave her a tsp and 1/2 of FF.
She needs to regain some of the weight she lost as she is too sunked in at the hips. Would giving her an entire can if she wanted, skew the levels too much??

Re: 6/21 Meadow's AMPS 298 +4 165 on a smidge more than 1u ??

I hope the "smidge" works for Meadow. I think I would call it a fat 1.0. It may be a little different than somebody else's fat but as long as you are consistent with the "smidge" it will be fine. Would there be any place other than LL that you could get away with writing a sentence like that.... ohmygod_smile

a smidge, a tad, a fatty, all the same huh? that looks to be a nice drop and she could still drop further no? hope meadow has a nice blue day with sunny sky's :-D

It looks like your smidge paid off already! YAY!

Re: 6/21 Meadow's AMPS 298 +11 85 !! Advice needed

PMPS 207....she got her fat 1.0 dose at 7pm. Is it okay that she went from 85 to 207 an hour after eating? That's normal right? Just seems like it spiked so quickly. Ok, ok...I'll stop worrying.

That is a big jump in an hour. Did you give Meadow a big bowl of pasta with a loaf of bread? Did you retest to make sure the number was correct?

It would be helpful to us and to you if you did not edit your first post of the day when you want to put your pm information. You can still edit the subject line but most people do not go back and read the first post and you may miss out on getting the help you need.

Yes, I actually tested her with another meter and got a 205, so I guess the number is correct. Phooey. I thought that was a big jump in an hour.

Okay, I'm still learning this message board stuff. So if I need a reply pretty quickly, do I edit the subject line to reflect that and then hit submit and then reply to that post with my new question?

Yes you can edit your subject to say whatever you want or to ask for help etc. Then start a new post in the same daily thread. That way if you have an important question it won't get missed.

I just saw this and I see that Meadow had quite the spike from +11 to +12. Did you feed between +11 and +12?

Re: 6/21 Meadow's AMPS 298 +11 85 !! Advice needed

If you did feed between +11 and +12 you got a food spike reading. Please get a +1 tonight just to make sure. ;-)

Re: 6/21 Meadow's AMPS 298 +11 85 !! Advice needed

could it be she was on the rise and the food spike also kicked in...i mean it was at the end of her cycle. just a possibility. big spike.

Re: 6/21 Meadow's AMPS 298 +11 85 !! Advice needed

Meadow ate at 6pm...was tested before she ate and had the 85. She got her shot at 7pm with the PMPS being the 207. Took a +2 level and it's down to 182. Waiting to do aother reading just before bed at 11pm, which will be thr +4 mark. So yes, I do believe the 207 was a food spike. I hope.

Maybe this will help.

Most of us test, feed, then shoot all within about 5 - 10 min. I test Gabby at around 7:00. I feed her immediately after I test and while she's got her head in her bowl, she get gets her shot.

You should also not feed within 2 hours of shot time. The 85 was probably heading up and then you fed. You then got a food spike at PMPS. You want to try to avoid this situation since the food is artificially inflating the numbers. The pre-shot numbers should not be influenced by food.

Ok, I'll have to try and figure out the timing a little better. I actually thought the 6pm test was technically the PMPS reading. I only took the next reading at 7pm to double check what the numbers were doing and make sure it wasn't too low for me to shoot. The vet always told me to wait about 1/2 hr - 45mins to shoot to make sure she holds down the food. He said if she were to eat and get her shot at the same time, she could vomit up the food and then the insulin would be working on an empty stomach, which to me does make sense. I'll keep working at this and hopefully get it right soon.

oh sweetie, you ARE doing it right, what your vet said does make sense so i see the method you are using and it is good. the 6pm is your +11 and then you shoot an hour later. i don't often say the vet mekes sense but if your kittie has the tendency to throw up...does meadow do that often?

She was when she was first diagnosed. It was actually one of the reasonsI brought her back in to the vet. But she hasn't vomited in a long time, so maybe I'll have to rethink the method. It's only been this way since switching to the 7/7 split. These cats just won't wait the extra our to eat!
