Its 100 degrees outside and the AC is on. No deck for Daphne till this weather breaks. I went to my DS to see my DGN and they were in the pool, but I was actually too hot to even go in, I went inside to the AC. It was fun to watch my new nephew in the pool with the dog, I forgot my camera, it was so sweet.

So Daphne has a vetty appt. tomorrow, with the traveling vet. I am so glad I don't have to stress the both of us out with the car ride. I have all the info I need, thanks to many FDMB members who told me all about Adequan. My vet never prescribed it for a kitty before, so I wanted to make sure I knew everything there was to know. The dose I will ask for is equivalent to 30 insulin units, or 0.5 to 2.5mg per pound of body weight. I was also told by a few people to ask for the equine kind, that it works better. Hope I get it all right. I will wait till all the blood work comes back, to make sure her kidneys and liver are ok, I know you can't use Adequan with those issues.

If anyone has more to add that I don't know about Adequan, I would love to hear about it. I was told it will not raise BGs. I do hope it works for Daphne, so she can maybe someday come upstairs to sleep again with her beans. She misses that a lot and so do we.

Sending healing vines to all the kitties and beans who may need them today.

Re: 6/21 Daphne AMPS 117, +6 71,

A traveling vet, that's a wonderful option! I hope everything comes back fine with Daphne's blood work and that Adequan is the answer she needs.

Still holding strong with the diet plans?!

Keep cool, Barb!

Re: 6/21 Daphne AMPS 117, +6 71,

Hi Barb, how nice with the traveling Vet for you and Daphne. Good luck with everything. It sounds like you've done your homework. Very nice cycle for Daphne today. Wow on the 100 degrees and hope tomorrow is a little cooler?

Re: 6/21 Daphne AMPS 117, +6 71, PMPS 105, +3 50

Reagan - Yes, the diet is going well. I think I will just need to add about .30oz or so. We run short on one snack @ +8 or so.

Ann - Yup, I've been reading and asking lots of questions… I hope her blood work will be ok to do the Adequan.

I can't believe this, I always reload the syringe after I give the insulin to Daphne, and then refill it with water to see how many drops I gave, and when I did it this time, I ended up with two full drops! She should only have one. I hate this syringe problem! So I just tested and she's 50! She was doing so well, now I have to feed her extra food and test a ton, and maybe even give HC just to keep her safe... :YMSIGH: :YMSIGH:

Someday, maybe someone will come up with an accurate syringe. cat(2)_steam

My vet gave me a prescription for canine adequan. I found the best price for equine adequan from Foster and Smith and they had no problem giving me the equine adequan with the canine adequan prescription.

Re: 6/21 Daphne AMPS 117, +6 71, PMPS 105 +3 50 Syringe issu

Come on up, Daphne. Maybe a teaspoon of HC is in order.

Thanks Dyana on the Adequan…

She came up to 69 @ 3.5, with a tsp. of LC, so maybe she didn't get a full second drop… but I'll test again in a half hour to see where she is going, and HC if needed.

I'm glad she came up with the LC.

Hi Barb,
It sounds like you have all the Adequan questions ready for the traveling vet. Wishing you much luck and a good appointment.
Water has a different consistency than insulin. A drop of water might not correspond to an insulin drop.

Come on, Daphne: hold it right there and surf for a while. It's too hot to stress out your mamabean!

Have a good evening, keep cool!

Don't I wish they would!!! Terumo tells me they target pets with their syringes but they were just as inaccurate as any of the others.

Check with Ann/Tess on redraws. She draws her insulin, checks the drops, and then redraws in the same syringe. She can give you more info so you aren't checking AFTER you shoot.

Hope you are doing better. Good luck with the adequan.

Re: 6/21 Daphne AMPS 117, +6 71, PMPS 105 +3 50 Syringe issu

I have had good success using Adequan. Some vets prefer to give the shots IM, while others feel that it is OK to give sub Q.

The dosing schedule usually starts with giving it more frequently, and then tapering down. For instance you might give it twice a week for two weeks, then once a week for two weeks, then once monthly, as needed. (Consult your vet, of course, for the schedule he wants you to follow).

Re: 6/21 Daphne AMPS 117, +6 71, PMPS 105 +3 50 Syringe issu

Thanks Dyana, Marje, Ella, Linda… she is 64 now, +4. She probably just got a little extra I guess.

Ella, I swear as much as I think I'm learning, I always seem to get something wrong. It never even crossed my mind that water would be different then the insulin.

Marje, thanks, I will definitely ask Ann about the redraw.

Linda, thanks, I have had most people tell me they do the subq, so thats what I will ask the vet about. I really do not want to do the IM, it will just hurt Daphne more, I know the IM is painful.

Re: 6/21 Daphne AMPS 117,+6 71, PMPS 105 +3 50 + 3.5 69, +4

We do the SubQ with Mario, and it has worked amazingly for him. I agree...the thought of doing an IM injection that frequently to an arthritic senior cat just doesn't seem right. There's no way I could even attempt to do it with Mario...I'm thankful our vet was aware that SubQ works just as well.

All these syringe issues are enough to make a bean nuts...I can't believe that the FDA "tolerance" for these variances is as high as it is!

Good luck with the vetty visit tomorrow...we're thinking of you!

Re: 6/21 Daphne AMPS 117,+6 71, PMPS 105 +3 50 + 3.5 69, +4

Thanks Amy, its so annoying that when you try to do everything right, by the book, the quality control of these companies just don't care. They just get their over priced products out as fast as possible and the FDA doesn't care.

All this just gave me a migraine, and my sciatica is back. I'm just thankful I don't have to drive tomorrow, and carry a kitty carrier, which feels like I'm carrying a house, instead of a 15lb kitty.

Have a good night LL.
