A good start to the day for Sammy. He ate a small amount of FF at 6am, got his test @7:20am and ate again. I'd like to not have to feed him first but all the other cats get fed then. He bled easily this morning. The DH will get a test at +3 for me.

+3 303

+6 279

My DH had his mom take him to the doctor this afternoon so I have no idea what will happen tonight. I'll do the PMPS but don't know if I'll be at the hospital later or home. nailbite_smile Okay, he got the #'s mixed up. They are correct now.

+14 169! Gave catnip and a treat after the poke. Growling and head jerking only. But this is good! :-D

Re: 6/2 Samwise AMPS 337 +3 279

Hi Sue, nice numbers yesterday, good job getting the +3 today. It'll be interesting to see what he does today! Here's the link to yesterday's condo.

Hmmm, feeding within the 2 hours prior to PS will make your PS test food influenced. It's really best to avoid that. It's fine to free feed any other time, but you really should pick up food by +10. Is there any way to adjust the schedule so that you can give him a small snack no later than +10, maybe move the shot to 8:00? Or move his shot earlier, to when you feed everyone? I'm not sure what your evening schedule is, what do you think?

I would encourage you to get at least a before bed test every night, if you don't get any tests in the PM cycle you are missing half of your data. Many cats go lower at night, so that test will give you an idea if you need to keep testing or not. Also, since Lantus is a depot type insulin, the patterns tend to be several cycles long, so that PM testing will help you see Sam's patterns. I'm not trying to give you a hard time about it, just explaining why it's important.

Re: 6/2 Samwise AMPS 337 +3 279

I don't really want to move his shot time any earlier and I did ask the vet about feeding him before the test and she told me it didn't make that much difference. I'll try to see if I can not feed him but he gets really cranky if he doesn't get his am feeding. I will get a reading before bed tonight. I'll get the +6 posted when I get home the DH had to go to the doctor. Would it make a difference if I did the test before he ate but didn't give the shot until an hour later? Since the dose is the same every time. mmm....maybe not eh?

Not too bad of numbers for Samwise. Is there any reason you couldn't just do his test-feed-shoot at 6am, instead of waiting until 7:20? I am not familiar with your schedule and maybe you have already stated why....if so, I'm sorry!

Good job with the tests....

Well, I would love to be able to test all the time but Sam is getting really sensitive about his ears. I've tried different ears, different places on the ears. I hate hurting him! He screams now when I test him, he anticipates etc. Getting the pre-shots and the +6 is about all he will sit still for. But I will try to get them.

Sue, you really can't test an hour before the shot and use that for PS, sorry. There's another good reason for not feeding close to preshot also....when you feed after nadir, it tends to push up the preshot numbers, unless your cat has a working pancreas. I would try to find a way to avoid feeding before shot time if possible. If not, maybe try using some boiled chicken breast for a small snack....less carbs, it may not push the numbers up as much (that's what I use for testing treats).

Regarding the ears....do you have neosporin with pain relief? Some people put it on a few minutes before they test, to numb the ear. That might help Sammy.

I knew that was a stupid question. After thinking about it for 5 minutes I'm like, no you can't do that! It will change in an hour. DUH! ohmygod_smile
