Got Frodo in to the vet 6/17 afternoon, since he still didn't want to eat. They ran lab work, fluids with dextrose to keep him from dropping too low, and a precautionary shot of antibiotic. 6/18 we got the lab results and they show some sort of infection, no indication where - white count elevated. So he's on a course of Baytril. I've been assist-feeding A/D, probably not enough for maintenance, but some (He hates it). Fluids at home, and today I got him started on Cerenia for possible nausea and Cypro for appetite. He ate a little tuna this morning, and a little more after lunch (smelly Trader Joe's Tuna - that's my go to for cats who don't want to eat.) Hoping the antibiotic kicks in soon - Thought I'd given him 1/2 last night and then found it on the sofa this morning! Cats!!
His blood sugar hasn't been running terribly high - I'm watching and will start some insulin again if it does. Unfortunately this vet is of the opinion "Don't give them insulin unless BG is over 300." In general I've been ignoring vet's advice on insulin dosage, but until Frodo eats enough to kick BG up higher it's probably safer to let it run a little high.
On top of everything else, I had some sort of 24-hour intestinal bug myself, so yesterday was rather a blur.

Sending prayers that the AB starts working soon and that you are feeling better, too! The ABs can also mess with their tummies, so hopefully the cerenia will help there. Take your pills, Frodo - they will help you feel better!

More vines from me. Amy makes a good point. You might want to add some probiotic to the mix to help the tummy. Fortiflora is one option.

double check on whatever the baytril dose is too - that's an AB that is VERY important to get the right dose. Too large of a dose can cause blindness in cats.

I would be checking twice a day for ketones while he's feeling yucky.

sending healing vines to all of you!

Ditto on what everyone has said.

Have you tried giving Frodo baby food? (Gerber or Beechnut Stage 2 is meat and broth -- Gerber contains a little cornstarch and is about 7% carb.) Lots of cats like the stuff and it's easy on the tummy.

He now seems to be willing to eat a little each time I put something down. More TJs tuna, some boiled chicken. At least some getting eaten, and then he walks away. Don't know if his tummy might have shrunken from not eating much for a few days. Bu he's at least interested, much better than yesterday.
