Hi, Everyone,

So this is the lowest I have seen her yet. Going to check her again in a half hour to see if she rises. Is this anything to be concerned about? Mind you, I'm used to seeing my cat in the 200s/300s, which I know isn't healthy but I felt much safer with those. The blues just freak me out. Almost ready to throw in the towel and just give her the 2.5, keep her in the mostly yellows, and call it a day. She also hasn't eaten that much today for whatever reason (but she LOVES her salmon purebites and will eat those in a heartbeat) :rolleyes:.

Those blue numbers are excellent. You should be very happy to see them! Having said that, I totally understand what it's like to see first blues (and especially greens... I waited a LONG time to ever get a blue preshot and was totally excited... although a little nervous.) There's absolutely no danger in the blues and you are in control because you are testing and because you have the tools to steer Baby G's number and to handle anything that comes along. And lots of people are here to help you. Hang in there. Celebrate the blues!

I'd be happy with high blues (170-190), but low blues worry me because 1) shes alone when I go to work, 2) shes not been eating reliably, probably due to the pancreatitis, and 3) what about meter variance? So if my meter shows her in the 120s, couldn't she technically potentially be in the greens? Feeling like putting her back to 2.5 tonight. I'm so scared of a hypo. I've never had one.
 
Couldn't this dose drop her even more over time? Seems like you don't see the full power of the dose until about a week or more later.
 
I see you have used the Libre. The numbers that you are recording on the spreadsheet are Libre numbers or ReliOn Prime numbers?
 
I'm moving in half unit increments, so not 100% following the method. Monday the vet will look at my spreadsheet and I guess we'll go from there. The 1st tab on the spreadsheet has the Relion Prime numbers, and the 2nd tab has the Libre numbers. I once tried putting them together but I personally found it more helpful to keep them separate so I can better discern the variances between the two.

She's been 7 cycles on the dose of 3 units. The depot should be mostly established, I would think (every cat is different.) Of course, you should hold the dose for at least a week unless a reduction is warranted based on numbers (below 90 for SLGS).
 
I would stick with 3.0 units for now. The goal with SLGS is to get the nadirs in the 90-149 range and she's finally starting to see them. I wouldn't worry about meter variance but rather take the meter at face value. At 127 there is a long way to go to get down to the danger zone of below 50.
 
Sorry, didnt see Wendy's response until after Baby G's shot. She went back to 2.5 units last night. Also gave her half a Gabapentin tablet just in case her not wanting to eat is from pancreatitis. So far this morning she has bounced again (I need to update spreadsheet; trying to catch up on sleep first). Shes in upper 300s now. I think those lows yesterday are making her body freak. Having problems getting her to eat substantial food (she just wants treats). She was doing so good until her vet visit Friday to replace her sensor, and now shes being finicky again for whatever reason. I forgot to mention when we went to the vet, she was weighed and she actually gained 4 ounces. Weight is the biggest clinical sign I look at to tell if the diabetes is on the right track or not, so was glad to see that. Just don't want her to lose it now by being fussy again.
 
Thanks. I'm going to head to the pet store to get more things to try to entice her to eat.
As far as the 2.5, it's so hard to say. We did a trial on it for a little over a week. We were starting to get some decent numbers out of it (vet happy with the 200s range) but I personally thought it could be better.
 
Vet's are happy with 200 range because most people don't home test. However, it's not good on the cat's body to be in those damaging high numbers all the time. SInce you home test, the SLGS goal of nadirs in the 90-149 range gives her body a break by being in better numbers.
 
While I was out I stopped at Walmart to see if they had calipers but they don't; they recommended going to Autozone, which would have to be a trip for another day.
I got her Tiki and Wellness Core pate food to try since she's on and off with the Friskies and Fancy Feast pate. Hopefully she'll like one of those.
Not sure tonight whether I'm going to stick with the 2.5 until the vet can advise Monday or if I'm going to try eyeballing a 2.75 again. :confused: I personally would be content even with a nadir of 150 to 190 because theres still wiggle room for days she doesnt eat as well, meter variances, etc., but yet shes also in healthier numbers and wont build up damage. It's just trying to achieve that. So far the 2.5 seems a bit too high, the 3 seems a bit too low, so I'm like Goldilock and the 3 bears trying to get a middle zone between the two lol. Or it could be I need to hold a dose longer than a week. I just know that the 3 freaked me out and I would not feel comfortable at all leaving her home alone even with food, especially since she's not eating as well. If she were reliably eating it would make everything much easier. :arghh:

Edited to add: I was playing around with a syringe and it seems like if I push out until 1 drop exits and falls from the needle, that it looks like a consistent and decent halfway point between the half unit line and the full unit line. So I like that. It does seem pretty wild to me that a half unit is basically only 2 drops. It's amazing to think that 2 drops can make such a difference. But still, my 0 line can be off so without a caliper I could be gaining or losing a drop here or there.

Really. So it honestly sounds like I'm just overreacting to the lows she was getting? My worst nightmare is coming home from work to find a seizing or dead cat. It was scary enough yesterday even with my being home all day with her lol.
