Happy Father's Day.

Simon is a daddy. He actually lived with two of his babies until they were about 3 years old. The family that had him before they gave him up to the shelter had him, his "wife" and two of their babies. They neutered Simon right after the litter was born thankfully. His entire family got adopted quickly but he languished an entire year at the shelter before we brought him home. Must have broken his heart.

So, Happy Father's Day to all the Dads, furry or human!

I know that must have been very sad for Simon. I'm so happy that Simon is now blessed with a wonderful mommy and daddy who loves him dearly. Tell both Simon and the DH happy father's day!!

Yeah, poor Simon. He had a wonderful family who loved him very much for the first 5 years of his life but they lost their home in this rotten economy and had to move to an apartment where they did not allow pets. So, they had to give up all 4 of their kitties to the shelter. We have all of Simon's vet records and his previous family took him for all of his shots and took good care of him. It must have been very hard for them and for the cats.

The reason Simon was adopted last was because he had to eat special food due to severe skin allergies so he had to be separated from the other cats and they had him in a cage instead of running loose in the cat room (this is a fabulous no kill shelter by the way and they take great care of all the animals there) so because he was black (they are harder to adopt out believe it or not due to superstitions) AND had special needs (the food was 23 bucks for a 3 lb bag) that made him harder to adopt out

In the end, the special food ended up being a BAD thing for Simon (Hills SD DD prescription) as it is VERY high in carbs and may have contributed to his diabetes. We were very nervous when we switched him over to the wet food because his skin issues were really bad when he erupted, but his fur has NEVER looked better! My guess is that he had an issue with gluten, not an allergy to any specific meats in the other dry foods! Too bad no one figured that out earlier. We only found out by accident when we had no choice but to transition him to lower carb wet food due to his FD diagnosis. Happenstance was a good thing in this case. He used to be so miserable before, even eating the prescription food! He would scream to be brushed constantly and his fur was a mess. Flaky, scaly, dandruff and he had sores on his back that although could not be seen, they could be felt under the fur. Now, NOT a SINGLE sore since eating FF classics.

If only we can get the diabetes in remission, this is going to be one happy kitty. He has been through so much in his life. Poor baby cat_pet_icon

The lord works in mysterious ways!! When one door closed on Simon another one open up for him! I'm so glad that Simon found a loving home with you.
When the economy takes a nose dive nobody ever thinks about how it affects the animals. Not only do many loose their homes and families but the shelters and the non profits also loose their donations!! I wish I could help them all. A friend of mine that I met through Fetch (a pet sitting service) is starting a no kill shelter for cats in Alabama. Its not built yet but when it is I hope to volunteer and help take care of some of the cats.
CL also has dandruff however since she had her change in diet her coat has improved a lot. Diabetes is some ways has been good. I never knew how important good food was to a cat. I just bought whatever was on sale at the grocery store and put it in a automatic feeder. That was the worst thing I could have ever done but out of ignorance I did it. I'm sure that was a BIG factor in her getting diabetes. I've learned a lot in the last year and a half. I wish I had known more about cats in my younger days when I first found CL and George as kittens. I could have done so much better!
I did promise them I'd keep a roof over their head and I did do that!! Live and learn.
I hope that all the dads in your family be they have fur or not have a wonderful day today!! bcatrun_gif
