I actually have the same thought as Sienne....why do you think he needs subqs? Is he dehydrated? Does he have pancreatitis?

Subqs might lower BG a bit. I would not give them at the same time as I give the shot. I'd separate in time by a few hours. But....unless there is a medical reason to give them, I wouldn't. IMHO.

He has been on Sub Q's to keep him hydrated just to make sure he isn't going to crash again. I had him on every day for a few days when he came back from the vet. When I brought him back on the 7th he was dehydrated (slightly) again. Since then he's had it on the 8th and the 10th. He was doing ok until last night. He started to seem "blah". I wanted to give him some but wasn't sure how it would effect his insulin and if I had to wait a certain amount of time pre/post shot before giving Sub Q

He's also quite constipated despite the fact I am adding water to his food and he is drinking. Last night gave him some Miralax.

Fluids can drop BG numbers. Either separate the time by a few hours from when you shoot or give them after nadir.

I'd discuss the fluids issue with your vet. I'd be curious as to why Tidus isn't staying hydrated.

We've been trying to figure out (with the vet) what is going on with him. He was tested negative for distemper, salmonella and a few other things. I will be starting him on B12 injections as soon as the B12 is here (had to order) It seems he is at least keeping food down and has no diarrhea now. We're just not sure what triggers it. It happened 3 times where he seems fine and then crashed (vomiting/diarrhea) so we don't want to take any chances. IMHO I think being dumped by his family- he lost his will to live. I think you can see sadness in his eyes. I know he knows he's safe here, but it's still not the home he lived in for 10 years.

Hi. I'm not sure about timing. I haven't read anything that indicates it makes a difference, but it couId.

I have discovered that location is an issue. It takes 6-8 hours for your cat to absorb the fluids. Someone suggested to me that you should give the fluids on the other side of the body from the side where you give the insulin injections. So, I give my cat his injections in his flank and his subQs in his back on the opposite side. What sort of volume are you giving him? I gave Bob 100ml about 3 dozen times. He looked like a camel for about 2 hours, then there was no evidence of the fluids so he apparently absorbed them fairly quickly. I have also read that you want to give them on the opposite side if your giving insulin in the scruff/shoulder area, and you want to space them out at least 3-4 hours from the insulin injection. But that was with PZI, not Lantus.
With Bob, I wasn't shooting sub-q insulin so I didn't have to worry about the fluids and the insulin in the same general location, however.

Praying you are able to make that "sadness in his eyes" disappear forever. If anyone can do that, you can.
