Re: 6/13 Pepper AMPS 104, +3 166
I was told no food after midnight the night before taking Neko in for her appointment, and a half dose insulin in the morning. Most nights I gave her some a good sized meal and some MC just before midnight. I did ask Dr. Timian, what happens if she goes low overnight, and she said of course you'd have to feed, but let them know if you had to do that. That's another reason a dose with high greens/low blues would be ideal. Anesthesia can lower BG so that's another complicating factor. I rearranged PS time so that she'd get her test and shot just before going in the carrier to go to CSU. We'd drop her off and then go have breakfast. Nothing like eating around a starving cat.
The first day is a long one, but starting the second day I got Neko back before nadir so was able to get some food in her then. Just remember to feed small amounts every 20 minutes or so to avoid scarf and barf. I did stick to the no food 2 hours before shot time in the evening as well. The first day they are under anesthesia longer, so it takes a while longer to come around again.
There is a Petsmart on S. College Way (main route to CSU) on the way to CSU and a Petco on S. College Way just past Drake St which is the turnoff for CSU. So you don't have to carry all the food you need for the trip.
